What is a Temporary CFI Flight Instructor?

A Temporary CFI (Certified Flight Instructor) Flight Instructor is a pilot who has recently earned their CFI certificate and is authorized to instruct students while awaiting their permanent certificate from the FAA. The 'temporary' status refers to the interim certificate issued after passing the CFI checkride, which is valid for up to 120 days. During this period, temporary CFIs can provide flight instruction, endorse students, and log instructional time just like fully certified instructors. This role is essential for gaining teaching experience and building flight hours, often serving as a stepping stone to more advanced aviation careers.
