Summary
The R&D Intern will gain meaningful, hands-on experience in development and manufacturing of technical ceramics while working closely with Heraeus Engineers, Technicians, and Research & Development teams. This role provides exposure to real-world product manufacturing processes, analytical techniques, and laboratory best practices within a highly regulated and safety-focused environment. The intern will support daily R&D operations and contribute to ongoing analytical and materials testing efforts, building a strong foundation for a future career in science or engineering.
Your Role and Responsibilities:
• Processing ceramic powder systems to yield high end technical ceramics
• Prepare ceramic and powder samples for analysis in analytical lab
• Grind, cut, and prepare ceramic samples for analysis using various laboratory and analytical instruments.
• Operate analytical equipment such as Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM) to image and characterize ceramic materials.
• Accurately document activities by maintaining logs, data records, and equipment record books.
• Follow established methods, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality guidelines.
• Perform routine tasks and assist with non-routine projects or activities as assigned.
• Support cleaning activities to maintain a safe, organized, and compliant work environment.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams while maintaining attention to detail and data integrity.
What is required for the role:
• Currently enrolled university student pursuing a degree in a scientific or engineering discipline (such as Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field).
• Previous laboratory experience through coursework, academic labs, or practical training is acceptable.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word for documentation and basic data handling.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions, laboratory methods, and strict safety protocols.
• Strong commitment to safety practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
