Temporary Architecture Internships information

What is a temporary architecture internship?

Temporary architecture internships are short-term positions, usually lasting a few weeks to several months, where students or recent graduates gain hands-on experience in an architectural firm or related organization. These internships provide exposure to real-world projects, help interns build professional skills, and often serve as a stepping stone to full-time employment. Interns may assist with tasks such as drafting, model making, research, and site visits under the supervision of licensed architects.

What kinds of projects and responsibilities can I expect during a temporary architecture internship?

As a temporary architecture intern, you'll typically support the design team by assisting with tasks such as drafting plans, creating 3D models, conducting site research, and preparing presentation materials. You may collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and other interns, gaining exposure to different project phases from schematic design to construction documentation. The workload can vary depending on the season and firm, but you'll often have the opportunity to contribute to real projects and receive constructive feedback from experienced professionals. This hands-on experience is valuable for building your portfolio and developing practical skills relevant to your future career.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary architecture intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Architecture Intern, you generally need a background in architectural studies, basic design principles, and strong drafting skills, often supported by enrollment in or completion of an accredited architecture program. Familiarity with technical tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite is typically required. Attention to detail, willingness to learn, and effective communication are standout soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities are vital for efficiently contributing to project teams, producing high-quality work, and gaining practical experience in a professional architectural setting.
