Job description

Duration of approximately six months

• Time based/Milestone compensation

• Compensation divided among four major art packages and tied to completed, accepted deliverables

• This is a 1099 private contractor position.


The four principal areas of work will cover:


1. Character art

2. Background and environment art

3. General game assets

4. Concept development for our next unannounced title


LOCATION AND WORKING ARRANGEMENT


Applicants must be local to the Oviedo area. The artist will control their own working schedule. Our Oviedo studio and secure equipment will also be available as an optional workspace and are recommended for artists who prefer closer collaboration with the team. Occasional milestone reviews or collaborative sessions may be arranged in advance.


RESPONSIBILITIES


• Create polished 2D character, background, environment, and general game artwork

• Match and expand the established visual style

• Produce early concept exploration for an unannounced game

• Prepare organized, layered, production-ready source files for the game-development pipeline

• Submit agreed progress stages and final milestone deliverables

• Communicate clearly and incorporate feedback within the agreed revision scope

• Maintain the confidentiality of unreleased projects and materials


QUALIFICATIONS


• A strong portfolio demonstrating 2D character, background, environment, and asset work

• Strong illustration, composition, color, and visual-development skills

• The ability to match an existing art direction

• Experience preparing layered files and production-ready game assets

• The ability to manage an independent schedule and meet agreed milestone dates

• Clear communication and comfort receiving structured creative feedback

• Game-development experience is preferred, but the quality and relevance of the portfolio matter more than formal credentials


HUMAN-CREATED ARTWORK REQUIREMENT


Boltz Entertainment does not permit generative-AI artwork in this production.


All submitted portfolio pieces and contracted deliverables must represent the applicant's own authored work. Selected artists will be expected to provide normal workflow evidence such as sketches, intermediate progress files, layered source files, version history, reference information, and disclosure of the tools used.


HOW TO APPLY

We are looking for an artist who can contribute meaningfully to the team while helping us establish the artistic foundation of what comes next.


General responsibilites:


  • Create production-ready 2D character, environment, prop, object, and concept art for Utterance and an undisclosed future title.
  • Maintain visual consistency with each game’s established art direction.
  • Translate creative briefs, gameplay needs, and references into clear visual concepts and finished assets.
  • Produce sketches, iterations, color studies, polished artwork, and properly exported game-ready files.
  • Incorporate feedback and complete reasonable revisions during each project phase.
  • Collaborate with the design, development, and existing art teams to ensure assets work correctly in-game.
  • Keep layered source files, exports, naming conventions, and project folders organized.
  • Communicate progress, estimated completion dates, questions, and potential blockers.
  • Contribute ideas that strengthen the games’ characters, environments, atmosphere, and overall visual identity.
  • Protect confidential information concerning unreleased games and internal development.


Qualifications:


  • Strong portfolio demonstrating professional-quality 2D character, environment, and asset artwork.
  • Solid understanding of composition, color, lighting, perspective, anatomy, shape language, and visual storytelling.
  • Ability to work within an established style while also helping develop a new visual direction.
  • Proficiency with Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, or comparable professional art software.
  • Ability to produce clean, organized, layered source files and game-ready exports.
  • Comfortable receiving direction, responding to feedback, and revising artwork.
  • Reliable communication and the ability to manage assigned objectives independently.
  • Must live within reasonable commuting distance of Oviedo, Florida.
  • Resume and portfolio must be included with the application.
