They work on a contract basis rather than as a full-time employee, and are paid based on the terms outlined in their contract, often by the hour or project. As a 1099 contractor, they are responsible for their own taxes and do not receive employee benefits such as health insurance or paid time off. This arrangement offers flexibility for both the contractor and the company, allowing for specialized work without a long-term commitment.
