Primary Purpose
The Art and Design Studio/Lab Assistant I - IV and Senior Studio/Lab Assistant is responsible for collaborating with Art and Design faculty to monitor and supervise students working in the 2D/3D/Digital Art & Design lab and studio spaces, and/or exhibition spaces. This position may also assist with Art and Design administrative tasks and outreach events ad hoc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor and supervise students during Art and Design open lab times.
  • Assist as needed in various 2D/3D/Digital Art and Design lab and studio spaces, and/or exhibition spaces.
  • Train Federal Work Study students in lab/studio/ exhibition spaces maintenance and clean-up.
  • Assist FAC administrative assistant, faculty, and staff with other duties as assigned.

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.
  • Knowledge of various Art and Design media, techniques, and processes.
  • Ability to safely operate media area equipment and related tools.
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule to accommodate unpredictable disciplinary needs. Often requires weekends and evening shifts, particularly towards the end of each term.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently within established guidelines.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to provide clear instruction and training in a supportive and collaborative manner.
  • Ability to identify and communicate maintenance, safety, and operational concerns.
  • Ability to use software programs and database systems which include Microsoft Office Suite, email, website editing, basic desktop publishing, and modern office equipment.

Ergonomic Requirements
Regular office hours are established between 8 am - 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.
Work is physical. Requires ability to lift 50 pounds and possibly the use of power hand tools. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
  • High School diploma or GED.

Experience:
  • 6 months of work or higher education experience in an Art and Design related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
  • Associate Degree or Certificate of Completion in an Art and Design-related discipline.

Experience:
  • More than one year of work experience in an Art and Design related discipline.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop)
  • 6 months of work experience in a higher education setting.
