Work maintaining a complex network of supervisors and technical wastewater utilities systems. This is advanced administrative, technical, and supervisory work supporting a network of utility system lines, lift stations, metering facilities, and automated controls. Employees in this class plan, supervise, and provide technical assistance to operations and maintenance personnel. Direction is given to subordinates, diagnosing and planning repair and installation work. Employees participate in reviews of new or modified operations and exercise independent judgment within established technical standards. The position reports to a division supervisor, unit supervisor, or designee.

This Utilities Operations Specialist 4 (Sewer Operations Specialist 4) position is located at:

• 6730 - 142nd Avenue North; Largo, FL 33771 or 3900 Dunn Drive in Palm Harbor
  

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

What Will You Do

• Lead person of a small to medium-sized construction crew installing, maintaining, and repairing sewer systems, including cleanouts.

• Responds to emergencies (stoppages, overflows, etc.)

• Performs and directs visual inspection of sewer lines and systems.
• Responsible for the inventory and operation of asset equipment and vehicles.
• Maintains employee time records, scheduling of work, performing discipline, and writing performance reviews of your direct reports.
• Assists in the hiring, training, and mentoring of new personnel.
• Completes work-related reports and/or maintains operation and maintenance logs.

• Performs related work as assigned or required.

What Will You Need

• High school diploma or GED and 4 years of skilled utilities field experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

• Possession of a Wastewater Level 2 (previously a Level B) or higher Wastewater Certification.

• Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsement upon hire, with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) driving report.

• Possession and maintenance of a valid Temporary Traffic Control Certification within 9 months of hire/promotion date or position may be demoted.
• Assignment to work a variety of work schedules, including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

• Candidate may be required to perform manual labor for extended periods occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

Highly Desirable

• Possession of a Level 3 or higher FDEP Water Distribution Operators License
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise, motivate, and coordinate field crews effectively.
• Extensive knowledge of utilities system construction, maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation practices
• Skilled in operating and overseeing the use of heavy equipment, pumps, and sewer maintenance machinery
• Strong commitment to workplace safety, accountability, and quality workmanship
• Ability to train and mentor less experienced crew members
• Dependable attendance and willingness to respond to after-hours emergencies or on-call situations
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and physically demanding environments
• Team-oriented mindset with a professional and respectful attitude

• Fluent in any languages other than English, particularly Spanish.
