Duties/Responsibilities Duties/Responsibilities Participate in setting up events including moving tables, setting tables and chairs, staging, portable stairs, podiums, buffet set-up, bar set-up, equipment for speakers, etc. Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities Follow operational standards that exceed our customers' expectations for cleanliness, food presentation, and quality. Percentage of time 10 Position Details Position Information Classification Title Temporary Service/Maintenance FLSA Non-Exempt UGA Job Code FTE 1.0 Minimum Qualifications Position Summary At the Georgia Center, the Banquet Captain assists the banquet team in creating an optimal atmosphere for large events, conferences and meetings. Banquet Captains are responsible for event set-up, working and/or running events, helping direct banquet student and temporary staff for individual events, maintenance of basic equipment and cleaning, and the breakdown of meeting and banquet rooms according to department standards. Handling cash/credit cards may be required at times. Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position Requires at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Knowledge of the material methods and equipment used in setting up events. Help set up workstations with all needed supplies and equipment. Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment. Set up and prepare dining areas in accordance with banquet event orders, planning documents and production schedules. Exercise good decision-making and make changes as needed according to management or client direction. Work long hours while standing and under conditions of high temperatures. Communicate effectively and follow direction from supervisors and management. Physical Demands Move loads up to 50 lbs., unloading and stocking products. Perform push/pull activity with products weighing up to 30 lbs. Perform duties with repetitive motion of wrists, arms, and shoulders; hand and finger coordination. Reach, climb, balance, crouch, twist, crawl, and kneel. Work in noisy, hot/cold environments with chemicals, cleaning equipment, dust, fumes, and odors. Work long hours standing.
