Position Summary Information
Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions
The successful candidate must demonstrate experience, skills, and commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity and inclusion in students, faculty and staff.
The Rider Coach/Instructor is responsible for providing classroom and hands-on range instruction for the Basic Rider course. This Motorcycle Safety program is designed for anyone who wishes to obtain their motorcycle endorsements and may have little or no riding experience. Rider coaches must be able to effectively work with a diverse student population, conduct oneself in a professional manner that includes: appropriate appearance and language; exhibiting positive verbal and written messages; and positive interaction with others that is free from intimidation or threat, consistent with the MSF and College's mission. The Rider Coach/Instructor must be an experienced rider with excellent communication skills and be able to setup and demonstrate range exercises in accordance with the guidelines established by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF). Teaching a motorcycle safety course is physically demanding. It requires long hours, walking several miles in the course of a day, bending and stooping to place cones, and sometimes the need to push inoperable motorcycles for distances up to ¼ mile. Hot and cold weather conditions can add to the strenuous conditions you will encounter while teaching the course.
Applicants who are considered for interview will be required to perform teaching demonstration and will be given a driving skills test. You will be expected to be a role model for the Delta College motorcyclists, and as such, will be expected to demonstrate safe riding habits and always wear protective gear when riding to, from and during rider training activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Experienced motorcycle rider with a valid driver's license and motorcycle (CY) endorsement.
  • Background check including driving record will be required. Candidates should have no more than six points on driving record for moving violations during the 12 months before applying.
  • MSF Certified RiderCoach preferred, but candidates may be considered if approved by the Michigan Department of State to participate in the "RiderCoach Preparation Course". Candidate must be willing to incur all costs associated with the Rider Coach Prep training, with the exception of the sponsor registration fee. Employment with Delta College is contingent upon successful completion of this course.

Additional Experiences Considered
  • Prior instructional experience with Delta College Motorcycle Safety Program

Application Deadline
Position will remain open until filled. The College reserves the right to close the recruitment process once a sufficient applicant pool has been identified.
