About the Position

Under the direction of an Advanced Practice Clinician or MD, the Medical Assistant provides safe therapeutic care for a diverse population of university-age patients in a university setting.

Responsibilities include:

  • Phlebotomy Tasks
    • Gathering necessary supplies, assessing veins, performing venipuncture and collecting blood specimens.
    • Labeling and packaging specimens for transport.
    • Documentation of actions
  • Laboratory Testing
    • Obtaining samples via nasopharyngeal swab or throat swap
    • Performing rapid strep tests, blood glucose tests, In House Hemoglobin/Hematocrit, Mono and urine tests 
    • Documentation of actions
  • Direct Patient Care
    • Assisting the physician or APC with physical examinations, techniques and procedures, and other aspects of patient care
    • Observing and recording the current systems and patient history of present illness including physical and mental conditions - noticing physical and/or behavioral changes, the effects of drugs and incidents.
    • Reconciling medications and preparing the patient and electronic health care record for the visit
  • Miscellaneous Tasks
    • Stocking and maintaining lab supply list
    • Washington and sterilizing instruments
    • Communication over phone and electronic messages
    • Other tasks as assigned

This is a temporary position and will work a maximum of 1050 hours.

Required Qualifications Must have current or be eligible for at the time of hire:
  • Medical Assistant - Certification (WA State)
  • CPR Certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working as a Medical Assistant in a clinic or urgent care setting
  • Experience successfully obtaining samples and results for in-house tests
  • Medical Assistant Phlebotomy Certification (WA State)
  • Phlebotomy Certification
