What are Temp CADs?

Temp CADs, or Temporary Computer-Aided Drafters, are professionals hired on a short-term basis to create or modify technical drawings and plans using CAD software. They are often brought in to assist engineering, architectural, or construction firms during periods of high workload, to cover for absent staff, or to handle specific projects. Their responsibilities may include drafting, updating blueprints, and making revisions to existing designs under the guidance of permanent staff. Temp CADs must be proficient in industry-standard CAD programs and able to quickly adapt to new project requirements. This role offers flexibility for both employers and drafters, but often requires the ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments.

What CAD job pays the most?

Senior CAD designer, CAD engineering manager, and specialized roles such as CAD software consultants tend to offer the highest salaries in CAD-related jobs. Will CAD drafters be replaced by AI?

CAD drafters perform detailed technical drawing and design work that currently requires human expertise, but AI tools are increasingly automating repetitive tasks and basic drafting processes. While AI can assist and improve efficiency, it is unlikely to fully replace skilled CAD drafters in the near future, as complex design interpretation and decision-making remain human-driven skills.
