Job Summary/Description:

Do you live for the thrill of the "big get" and the satisfaction of a story that actually changes things? Are you a master storyteller who loves the grit of field producing as much as the strategy of the newsroom? We’re looking for a Senior Investigative Producer to lead our Special Projects Unit in Phoenix. This isn't a desk job—it’s a leadership role for a relentless investigator who knows how to rally a team, dig deep into the data, and turn complex investigations into high-impact, multi-platform "must-watch" content.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

What You'll Do:
• Lead the charge: Rally and mentor our Special Projects Unit, fostering a culture of curiosity, persistence, and high-stakes storytelling.
• Own the field: Get out of the office and into the action, field producing major investigations and ensuring our visual storytelling is as compelling as our facts.
• Craft the narrative: Work closely with reporters and photographers to structure complex investigations into clear, powerful stories that resonate across TV and digital platforms.
• Drive the strategy: Collaborate with the News Director and Executive Producer to identify high-impact investigative opportunities that align with our digital-first mission.
• Master the details: Oversee the vetting process, ensuring every script is bulletproof, every font is accurate, and every investigation meets the highest ethical standards.
• Innovate the "Show": Find creative ways to "showcase" investigative content, using graphics, data visualization, and immersive digital elements to keep viewers hooked.

What You Bring:
• Investigative pedigree: Proven experience producing deep-dive investigative content in a competitive market (you know how to find the story behind the story).
• Field producing chops: You’re at home in the field, managing logistics and capturing the moments that make a story real.
• Leadership fire: You know how to motivate a team of specialists, keeping morale high during long-term projects and tight deadlines.
• Killer storytelling skills: You can take a mountain of data and turn it into a narrative that people actually want to watch and share.
• Digital-first mindset: You understand that an investigation isn't finished until it’s optimized for streaming, social, and web.
• Relentless urgency: You thrive on the pressure of a big investigation and have the "scrappiness" to overcome any obstacle.
• Legal and ethical savvy: You have a deep understanding of media law and journalistic ethics (you know how to push for the truth while protecting the station).

Why You'll Love It Here:
• Real-world impact: You won't just be filling time; you'll be producing work that holds the powerful accountable and serves the Phoenix community.
• Creative resources: Join a team that invests in the tools and time needed to do investigative journalism the right way.
• Leadership autonomy: Take the reins of a dedicated unit and shape the investigative voice of one of the most innovative newsrooms in the country.
• Innovation focus: At Gray Media, we’re redefining what local news looks like—you’ll be a key architect of that future.
• A team that has your back: Work in a supportive, high-energy environment where your passion for the truth is celebrated.

Ready to lead the hunt and tell the stories that matter? Let's create something amazing together.

Qualifications:

• A college degree in journalism or a related field, and at least two or more years of newsroom experience. At least one year in a leadership role or management position preferred. Title and pay commensurate with experience. There is room to grow with Gray.
• Must have a desire to win, the ability to reflect on your work, and apply feedback.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), proven news judgment, ethics, and integrity.
• Must be able to work quickly and multitask under deadline pressure and breaking news.
• Ability to work long hours, weekends, and overnights for breaking news and specialized coverage.
