Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking an experienced Field Engineer to support the Space Surveillance Telescope (SST) program in Australia, with travel up to 40% annually. Responsibilities include maintenance, site visits, schedule monitoring, compliance, reporting, troubleshooting, and supporting overall program objectives, including sustainment Programmed Depot Maintenance (PDM), Emergency/Urgent Depot Level Maintenance (EDLM/UDLM), and Engineering Assistance (EA)/Technical Assistance (TA) efforts in accordance with contract requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • Troubleshoot and repair complex field issues, including depotlevel maintenance (PDM, EDLM, UDLM).
  • Perform fault isolation across integrated subsystems including telescope control systems (TCS), dome control systems (DCS), environmental monitoring systems (EMS), facility control group (FCG), and optical/mechanical assemblies.
  • Provide technical assistance to onsite personnel and coordinate with engineering, logistics, and program teams to resolve issues.
  • Prepare and review trip reports and technical documentation, including AFTO, CDRL, and TO updates (V&V and redlines).
  • Lead or support projects, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and provide guidance or training to team members.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, configuration control, export rules, and all operational procedures.
  • Meet physical requirements, including working in confined spaces, climbing ladders, lifting 40 lbs, and operating in various weather conditions.

Qualifications:

  • Active SECRET clearance.
  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
  • Able to travel up to 40% of the time (Travel to Australia).
    • Must be able to obtain a US Passport.
    • Must be able to obtain a 403B VISA for Australia.
  • Must be physically able to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, and lift 40lbs weight.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with largescale electromechanical, telescope, or precision optical systems.
  • Knowledge of control, servo, motioncontrol, and hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting and fault isolation.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical manuals, engineering orders, and related documentation.
  • Skilled in system troubleshooting using technical data, logs, test equipment, and data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB).
  • Experience supporting Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) and integrated system diagnostics.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across government, contractor, and engineering organizations.
  • Selfstarter with strong decisionmaking, timemanagement, and attention to detail; willing to travel worldwide on short notice.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado state is $67,000-$124,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
