Job description

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operates JMH switchboard telephone system, answers all incoming calls, connects callers to long distance, keeps Information Desk informed of census updates and program extensions as requested.

Acts as an answering service for JMH’s Staff Physicians and keeps on-call list updated. Maintains current telephone listing of JMH on-call staff, their pager numbers, and modes of contact.

Provides paging service: overhead, digital/alpha numeric, and radio paging.

Monitors alarm devices; reacts to alarms in accordance with procedures and reports any malfunctions.

Assists pager users with contacting Information Systems Department for pager repairs and/or replacement.

Coordinates with security/maintenance personnel; informs officer on duty of emergent situations.

Register patients who present in the Emergency Room completing various registration processes such as scanning and copying paperwork; entering information into computer system, providing information to patients/families, etc.

Verifies insurance information on various websites and updates information.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health.

Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards and hospital policies, procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior Switchboard Operation experience preferred. Previous clerical experience preferred.
