The Grounds amp; Facilities Technician supports the daily upkeep and maintenance of Elm Street Plaza and related civic spaces. Under the supervision of the Civic Space Facilities Coordinator, this hands-on role is responsible for executing landscaping duties, general repairs, custodial tasks, and event setup as assigned. The Technician ensures the site is clean, safe, and welcoming for the public while maintaining a professional demeanor when interacting with coworkers, vendors, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform daily landscaping and hardscaping tasks:
  • Lawn mowing, edging, weeding, mulching, turf grooming
  • Pressure washing, graffiti removal, litter pickup, leaf blowing/removal
  • Landscape bed and planter preparation, planting, pruning, chemical spraying, watering, etc.
  • Perform winter operation tasks
  • Assisting with rink maintenance duties as required
  • Snow removal
  • Ice melt distribution
  • Conduct minor facility repair, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance including painting, equipment cleaning, basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical
  • Assist in irrigation checks and minor irrigation repair
  • Safely transport equipment to and from repair facilities as needed.
  • Operate a variety of vehicles and power tools including UTVs, mini loaders, push/ride mowers, trimmers, snow blowers, landscaping equipment, etc.
  • Assist with restroom cleaning, chemical level checks, and basic plumbing
  • Follow safety protocols and report hazards or damages promptly
  • Attend training sessions and follow supervisor instructions precisely
  • Support event preparation and teardown activities as directed

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • At least 1 year of experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, facility maintenance, or a related field preferred
  • Familiarity with power equipment and outdoor maintenance tools
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
Skills or Specialized Knowledge:
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Ability to drive various types of vehicles and trailers
  • Ability to operate small engine equipment and vehicles safely
  • Willingness to obtain necessary safety certifications
  • Ability to secure certification as a forklift/telehandler operator; certification training provided
Physical and Mental Demands:
  • Ability to lift up to 70lbs
  • Ability to be mobile for 8 hours
  • Ability to work outdoors during all seasons
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screenings
