Assistant Vice President, Manufacturing


Position Summary

The Assistant Vice President, Manufacturing serves as the key strategic partner and second-in-command to the Vice President of Manufacturing. This executive leadership role is responsible for driving operational excellence and aligning performance across multiple manufacturing business units within a large-scale industrial environment. The AVP ensures achievement of safety, quality, delivery, productivity, cost, and financial objectives while developing organizational capability and supporting long-term business growth.


Organizational Scope

  • Serves as the deputy leader for manufacturing operations
  • Provides direct leadership and oversight to three General Managers
  • Leads a manufacturing organization of more than 1,000 employees
  • Drives alignment and collaboration across manufacturing, engineering, finance, human resources, supply chain, and other key functions
  • Partners closely with executive leadership to execute business strategy and operational priorities


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the Vice President of Manufacturing to develop and execute manufacturing strategies that support business objectives
  • Translate strategic initiatives into actionable operational plans across multiple business units
  • Ensure alignment of plant and business unit priorities with enterprise goals

Operational Excellence

  • Lead performance across General Manager-led operations, ensuring achievement of key operational metrics
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost performance
  • Establish accountability and performance standards throughout the manufacturing organization
  • Promote a culture of operational discipline, engagement, and excellence

Financial Management

  • Support annual operating plans, budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance management
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability through cost reduction, efficiency gains, and productivity improvements
  • Ensure effective management of manufacturing resources and operational expenditures

Continuous Improvement & Lean Transformation

  • Champion Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization
  • Lead operational excellence programs that improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance customer satisfaction
  • Standardize best practices and drive sustainable performance improvements

Capital Projects & Business Growth

  • Oversee major capital investment programs and strategic operational initiatives
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget
  • Support capacity expansion, modernization, automation, and other growth initiatives

Talent Development

  • Build organizational capability through leadership development and succession planning
  • Coach and develop General Managers and other senior leaders
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and employee engagement

Executive Partnership

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Vice President of Manufacturing and executive leadership team
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to achieve operational and business objectives
  • Represent manufacturing in executive reviews, strategic planning activities, and leadership discussions


Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, Business, or a related field required
  • Master's degree or MBA preferred


Experience

  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale industrial or manufacturing operations
  • Experience overseeing multiple facilities, business units, or complex manufacturing organizations
  • Proven track record of managing and developing senior leaders, including General Managers
  • Strong experience in operational excellence, Lean Manufacturing, financial management, and organizational transformation
