Job description

Outside Plant Technician I (OSP I)

Telecommunications  •  Field-Based
Macon, GA  |  Full-Time  |  PEC – Palmetto Engineering & Consulting

Help build the infrastructure that connects communities — as an owner.
PEC is a 100% employee-owned engineering and consulting firm. Because we operate an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), the people who do the work share in the value they create. When you join our telecommunications team, you're not just taking a job — you're becoming an owner.
As an Outside Plant Technician, you'll work in the field on our Macon, GA project, making sure outside plant construction is built right: to specification, accurately documented, and ready to serve the community. You'll survey, stake, inspect, and produce the as-built records that keep projects on track.

What You'll Do
  • Inspect outside plant contractors' work in progress to confirm contract specifications are followed and note any exceptions
  • Report discrepancies between specifications and completed work to your supervisor or Project Resident
  • Complete daily Field Observation Reports and weekly progress reports tracking materials and quantities used; monitor inventory and review material shipped to the job site
  • “Redline” construction prints and prepare “as-built” records, revising drawings to reflect field changes using staking sheets and schematics
  • Upon job completion, revise cable schematics to record as-built changes and submit fiber-loss reports, cable schematics, and final as-built records
  • Perform final inspections to audit the completed project and site clean-up
  • Survey, verify, and locate existing telecom utilities using a cable location device (as required)
  • Map roads and structures within the project area and stake the proposed telecom facility path and locations
  • Revise staking sheets during construction to reflect added facilities, then review for accuracy and submit to your supervisor
What You'll Bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent — some college preferred
  • Ability to work independently and travel weekly to the job site as needed
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass a substance abuse screening
Skills That Set You Up for Success
  • Clear verbal and written communication
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Comfort working independently and collaborating with coworkers and supervisors
  • Basic tablet and computer skills
Physical Requirements
This is a hands-on, field-based role. You should be able to:
  • Walk and/or stand for long periods on even and uneven ground
  • Drive for extended and intermittent periods across an 8- or 10-hour workday
  • Work outdoors in varying temperatures
  • Stoop and bend frequently while in the field
  • Manage occasional light-to-medium lifting
Why PEC?
  • Employee ownership (ESOP) — build equity as an employee-owner at no cost to you
  • Comprehensive benefits — medical, dental, vision, life insurance coverages, HSA and FSA options, and a 401(k)
  • Meaningful work — field projects that keep communities connected
  • A team that has your back — collaborative supervisors and coworkers invested in your success

PEC is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
