Job description

North Georgia Civil Inc. / NGC General Contractors

Commercial Construction Estimator

Location: Athens-area office is in Danielsville, GA. With 10% - 35% travel for bid walks and site visits

Build the Numbers Behind the Build

North Georgia Civil Inc., also known as NGC General Contractors, is a fast-growing commercial and civil contractor serving commercial, government, telecom, utility, EV, and infrastructure-related markets. Headquartered in Danielsville, GA, NGC has built its reputation on high-quality work, accurate communication, and a strong commitment to project success. The company is looking for a detail-oriented estimator who can help shape competitive, accurate bids for commercial and federal construction projects nationwide.

NGC is seeking a Commercial Construction Estimator to lead the estimating and pre-construction process from initial plan review through bid submission and project handoff. This role works closely with leadership, project managers, subcontractors, owners, and design teams to prepare accurate scopes, takeoffs, budgets, and bid strategies. The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, comfortable with technology, and able to spot risk before a project moves into the field. This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants to grow in a modern, fast-moving construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze project drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents to build accurate cost estimates.
  • Develop detailed material takeoffs, labor breakdowns, equipment pricing, and full project budgets.
  • Identify hidden pre-construction liabilities, permit fees, utility expenses, scope gaps, and project risks before bid submission.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and vendor bids to secure full scope coverage at competitive pricing.
  • Communicate technical scopes clearly with subcontractors, suppliers, owners, and design teams.
  • Attend bid walks and site visits for federal and commercial opportunities.
  • Document existing conditions, scope risks, and site-specific requirements.
  • Shape bid strategy with leadership, including where to be aggressive and where to protect margin.
  • Support the project handoff by turning over clean, well-documented budgets, scopes, and assumptions.
  • Track historical cost data and market conditions to improve estimating accuracy and win rates.
  • Help develop NGC's estimating tools, templates, and AI-assisted takeoff workflows.
  • Keep pre-construction files organized with clean folder structure, naming conventions, and project setup.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of dedicated estimating experience in commercial, civil, or telecom construction.
  • Proven ability to interpret blueprints, civil/structural drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and risk-management skills.
  • Precise attention to detail and ability to produce clean, accurate estimates.
  • Proficiency with digital takeoff software required.
  • Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud, Smartsheet, BuildingConnected, PlanHub, and Google Workspace preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with owners, subcontractors, suppliers, and design teams.
  • Federal/government estimating or telecom infrastructure experience is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is a plus.
  • Comfortable adopting new technology, including AI-assisted tools used across estimating and operations.
  • Willingness to travel 10% - 35% for bid walks and site visits.

Pay and Benefits

  • Full-time W2 employment.
  • Salary: $70,000 - $100,000 per year, based on experience.
  • Weekly pay cycle.
  • Opportunity to work on commercial and federal construction projects across multiple states.
  • Direct collaboration with company leadership and project management.
  • Professional growth opportunities in estimating, pre-construction, and project planning.
  • Paid time off
  • Paid holidays
  • Retirement support
  • Modern estimating tools, AI-assisted workflows, and room to improve internal systems as the company grows.

Why North Georgia Civil?

NGC offers the opportunity to be part of a growing company where estimating directly influences project success. This role is not just about producing numbers; it is about helping the company win the right work, protect margins, and set field teams up for success. The culture is team-oriented, accountable, and focused on doing high-quality work without unnecessary corporate layers. If you are detail-driven, tech-savvy, and ready to play a key role in pre-construction, NGC offers a strong path forward.

North Georgia Civil Inc. encourages applications from qualified candidates of all backgrounds and experiences.
