Position Overview

Kiewit is seeking experienced Fiber Field Engineers to support the execution of large-scale fiber optic and telecommunications infrastructure projects. This role plays a critical part in ensuring high-quality installation, accurate documentation, and seamless coordination between field teams and project leadership.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on field experience in fiber construction environments, with a strong understanding of fiber systems, installation standards, and construction workflows. This is a high-visibility role that works closely with superintendents, project engineers, and project managers to drive productivity, quality, and successful project delivery.

This role is based in Abilene, Texas. 

Responsibilities

Field Execution & Coordination

  • Support day-to-day fiber installation activities in active construction environments
  • Coordinate directly with field supervision, subcontractors, and project teams to ensure alignment and execution of work plans
  • Monitor and track production progress, identifying risks or delays and communicating updates to leadership

Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC)

  • Perform and support QA/QC inspections to ensure work meets project specifications, standards, and client requirements
  • Verify installation of fiber infrastructure including pathways, cabinets, patch panels, splice enclosures, and labeling systems
  • Assist in resolving field issues and ensuring corrective actions are implemented

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate redline drawings and markups reflecting field changes
  • Support development of as-built documentation and turnover packages
  • Track and maintain project logs including production reports, installation status, and issue tracking

Project Engineering Support

  • Assist with RFIs, submittals, and coordination with design teams
  • Track and manage material deliveries, usage, and inventory to ensure project continuity
  • Support field engineering efforts in planning, sequencing, and execution
Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of experience in field engineering or construction support (telecommunications/fiber preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with fiber installation projects in field construction environments
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic systems and infrastructure including:
    • Pathways and duct banks
    • Fiber cabinets and enclosures
    • Patch panels and splicing
    • Labeling and documentation standards
  • Experience supporting:
    • QA/QC inspections
    • Redline markups and as-built documentation
    • Production tracking and reporting
    • RFIs, submittals, and material tracking
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, field-driven environments

Preferred

  • Experience on large-scale telecom, data center, or infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, and BIM tools
  • Exposure to design-build or EPC project environments
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
