Job description

Job Title: MOCVD Engineer

Job Description

The MOCVD Engineer operates and optimizes MOCVD equipment to grow high‑quality semiconductor materials used in lasers and optical communication products. This role focuses on epitaxial growth of materials such as Indium Phosphide (InP) and Gallium Arsenide (GaAs), monitoring and improving process performance, troubleshooting complex equipment and process issues, and documenting results to support reliable, high‑yield semiconductor manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Run MOCVD equipment to support production and development activities.
  • Load wafers into MOCVD tools and prepare systems for growth runs.
  • Start, monitor, and control epitaxial growth processes according to established recipes and procedures.
  • Ensure that process recipes and parameters are set up correctly and remain within defined specifications during runs.
  • Grow thin epitaxial layers of semiconductor materials such as Indium Phosphide (InP) and Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) for lasers and optical communication products.
  • Inspect and analyze data from completed growth runs to evaluate material quality and performance.
  • Identify issues affecting yield, uniformity, and overall product quality based on process data and test results.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process problems involving gas delivery systems, vacuum systems, electrical controls, and process performance.
  • Work proactively to minimize equipment downtime and improve tool reliability and stability.
  • Adjust process recipes and settings to enhance material quality, yield, and repeatability.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of manufacturing methods for semiconductor and photonics products.
  • Record detailed process data, results, and observations for each growth run.
  • Write reports, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and other documentation to support consistent operations and knowledge sharing.
  • Track and report quality metrics, production metrics, and process performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and cross‑functional teams involved in semiconductor manufacturing, photonics, fiber optics, optical components, lasers, data communication, telecom, and wafer growth.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of industry experience working with MOCVD processes and equipment.
  • Hands‑on experience with epitaxial growth of semiconductor materials.
  • Practical knowledge of Indium Phosphide (InP) and Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) materials and their use in semiconductor devices.
  • Experience operating Aixtron or Veeco MOCVD tools.
  • Experience with semiconductor manufacturing, particularly in photonics, fiber optics, optical components, lasers, data communication, telecom, or wafer growth.
  • Experience with semiconductor laser structures and related process requirements.
  • Strong understanding of MOCVD processes, including gas delivery, vacuum systems, and process control.
  • Ability to interpret process data and test results to diagnose issues and optimize performance.
