Position Summary
The IT Field Engineer is a senior, field-facing technology role responsible for owning network deployments, hardware support, and site technology operations across Forgen's active project sites and office locations. This role serves as a primary point of escalation for the IT Service Desk and functions as the on-the-ground technology lead for new site mobilizations, ISP coordination, and end-to-end jobsite connectivity. The IT Field Engineer operates with a high degree of autonomy, interacts directly with employees at all levels-from craft workers to project executives-and partners closely with the IT Infrastructure and Service Desk teams.

Key Responsibilities
Field & Site Support
  • Travel to active project sites to provide IT support, troubleshoot issues, and represent the IT team on the ground
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for the IT Service Desk on complex or unresolved field and site issues
  • Lead jobsite technology coordination from mobilization through demobilization, including setup, ongoing support, and teardown
  • Meet with project executives, site superintendents, and staff to assess and coordinate IT needs
  • Assist with IT setup for new offices and project locations, including conference room and collaboration technology
  • Coordinate with local vendors for low-voltage installs, cabling, and other on-site technology services
  • Serve as a senior IT generalist, supporting a broad range of technical needs across field and office environments

Network & Connectivity
  • Configure and deploy high-availability, secure networks including wired infrastructure, switchgear, and wireless LAN
  • Order and coordinate ISP and telecom services for new and existing jobsites; administer ISP and vendor contracts and billing
  • Set up and configure Wi-Fi, Starlink, cellular hotspots, and other alternative connectivity solutions
  • Troubleshoot complex network connectivity issues and drive root cause analysis to resolution
  • Work with the IT Infrastructure team to develop and maintain network standards, configurations, and deployment procedures
  • Support network equipment, phone systems, and other IT infrastructure across jobsite and office locations
  • Maintain and manage network equipment inventory in coordination with logistics and the rental yard

Hardware & Device Management
  • Install, configure, and support printers including IP-based printing and print server administration
  • Image, configure, and deploy laptops, desktops, and other endpoint devices
  • Support and troubleshoot jobsite-connected tools, AV/conference room systems, and office equipment
  • Track and maintain asset inventory of IT equipment across job sites and office locations

Systems & Software Support
  • Support Windows 10 and Windows 11 environments across field and office deployments
  • Provide support for Microsoft 365 applications and services
  • Support and maintain Active Directory and Microsoft Entra (Azure AD) environments
  • Participate in software installations, upgrades, and patching cycles using update management tools
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of IT standards, procedures, and documentation

Escalation, Training & Communication
  • Function as Level 3 escalation for the IT Service Desk; resolve complex issues and document resolution paths for reuse
  • Train and mentor Service Desk staff and field team members on products, procedures, and best practices
  • Participate in the IT root cause analysis process and contribute to problem management knowledge base
  • Keep peers and management informed of trends, significant problems, and customer-impacting issues
  • Log and track issues using the problem management system; maintain accurate history records and related documentation
  • Any other task or duty as assigned or required

Basic Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent experience considered
  • 3-5 years of IT support experience (phone, in-person, and remote)
  • 2+ years of network infrastructure support experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications and services
  • Experience with Active Directory and/or Microsoft Entra (Azure AD)
  • Demonstrated experience configuring and deploying Cisco Meraki network devices.
  • Experience ordering, coordinating, and administering ISP and telecom services
  • Familiarity with Starlink, cellular hotspots, and alternative connectivity solutions
  • Experience imaging, deploying, and configuring laptops and desktops
  • Ability to install and troubleshoot printers, including IP-based and print server configurations
  • Experience with metric-based support ticketing systems
  • Experience with asset and inventory tracking of IT equipment
  • Ability to use patching and update management tools
  • Construction industry experience is a plus
  • CompTIA Network+ or Security+ certifications preferred
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; comfortable presenting to project executives and field staff alike
  • Self-starting and proactive-identifies opportunities and acts without waiting to be directed
  • Ability to handle sensitive and private information with appropriate discretion

Physical Demands & Work Environment
This role requires regular travel to active construction project sites across the country. Site visits involve physical demands including extended periods of standing or walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in environments with potential exposure to heavy equipment, dust, fumes, uneven terrain, and variable or extreme weather. Required PPE must be worn on all active construction sites. When not traveling, the role may be performed from a home or regional office environment using standard computing and communications equipment.
