Telamons, also known as Atlantes, are sculpted male figures used as supporting columns or pillars in architecture. They are the male counterparts to Caryatids, which are sculpted female figures serving a similar structural or decorative function. Telamons are typically depicted as muscular men, often bearing the weight of entablatures, balconies, or other architectural elements on their shoulders or heads. Originating in ancient Greek and Roman architecture, they are used both for practical support and as a decorative feature in buildings and monuments.
