What is a Tekla Internship?

A Tekla Internship is a temporary training position for students or recent graduates interested in learning about using Tekla Structures, a leading Building Information Modeling (BIM) software for construction and engineering projects. Interns work under the supervision of experienced professionals to gain hands-on experience in modeling, detailing, and managing construction projects using Tekla. This internship helps participants develop practical skills, industry knowledge, and can enhance their employability in architecture, engineering, or construction fields.

What types of projects can I expect to work on during a Tekla Internship, and how do these experiences support my career development?

As a Tekla Intern, you will typically work on real-world structural engineering or construction projects, using Tekla Structures to create detailed 3D models, drawings, and reports. Interns often collaborate with experienced engineers and BIM specialists, gaining hands-on exposure to industry-standard workflows and software. This experience provides valuable insight into how digital modeling supports project coordination, helps resolve design challenges, and ensures constructability. The skills and portfolio you build during your internship can significantly strengthen your prospects for full-time roles in structural engineering, BIM coordination, or related fields.

What is the difference between Tekla Internship vs Structural Engineering Intern?

Both roles are entry-level internships aimed at students or recent graduates. A Tekla Internship focuses on learning BIM software like Tekla Structures, while a Structural Engineering Intern gains practical experience in structural analysis and design. The choice depends on whether you want to specialize in BIM technology or broader structural engineering tasks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Tekla Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Tekla Intern, you generally need a background in civil or structural engineering, familiarity with construction drawings, and a basic understanding of 3D modeling concepts. Proficiency in using Tekla Structures software, and potentially AutoCAD or similar CAD tools, is typically required, and knowledge of BIM processes is highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn help interns excel in collaborating with engineering teams and adapting to project demands. These combined skills enable interns to accurately model structures, contribute to design projects, and gain valuable industry experience.
