Bilingual Incentive!
Bilingual Incentive Pay is +7.5% above the Registered Dietitian I or Registered Dietitian II base salary.
About the Position: Under the direction of the Supervising Registered Dietitian, provides nutrition counseling, education, training and consulting services to participants in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program, including high-risk clients; provides technical assistance, consultation, training and education to agency staff; provides educational presentations to the community.
Examples of Duties
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of the nutrition education policies and procedures.
  • Plans, develops, implements and teaches classes on nutrition, infant feeding, breast feeding education and support, and general nutrition.
  • Provides training to WIC employees in nutrition assessment and nutrition education plans.
  • Conducts nutrition assessments and develops nutrition education plans.
  • Conducts nutrition education programs for individuals, families and private and public agencies throughout the county.
  • Bilingual Candidates: Translates, interprets and otherwise communicates with members of the Spanish speaking community.
Knowledge of:
  • Applicable Federal, State, County, Department, and Division laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Human nutrition and its relationship to health and disease.
  • Health and nutritional issues concerning pregnant or nursing women, infants and children.
  • Principles and techniques of nutrition counseling including menu planning and food preparation methods.

Education, Experience & Licenses
Required Education:
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in nutrition sciences, community, clinical, or public health nutrition or dietetics.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Registered Dietitian I:No experience required.
Registered Dietitian II: A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience within a community nutrition clinic setting is desirable.
License & Special Requirements:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C Driver License and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Certification as a Lactation Educator is desirable.
  • Bilingual Candidates: Must pass a written and/or oral bilingual proficiency test (or another appropriate test selected by the County) to qualify.
Registered Dietitian I:Must be eligible for registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association and must obtain registration within one year of date of appointment Failure to obtain registration as outlined will result in the incumbent becoming disqualified for further employment as a Registered Dietitian I.
Registered Dietitian II:Must possess a Registered Dietitian (RD) title as registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association.

The department is currently recruiting for one (1) vacancy.
In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Registered Dietitian I/II or a Registered Dietitian I/II - Bilingual, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
Testing Dates: August 19-23, 2026. Tests will be provided via email (excludes bilingual exam).
Tentative Interview Dates:1st - Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 10:00am to 12:00pm.2nd - Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 1:00pm.
*Only the most qualified candidates will be invited to interview.

*Rates listed in this flyer represent a full-time employee's accrual rate and health insurance premium rate. Part-time employees will have pro-rated accruals and health insurance premium rates based on the number of hours they work.

SALARY:
  • Annual salary step increases based upon satisfactory performance and completion of one year of employment (Step A to E).

HEALTH:
  • Approximately 80% of the premium for medical, dental, and vision plan is paid by the County (EPO Plan). The plan covers the employee and all eligible dependents at NO ADDITIONAL COST!
  • Employee premiums are $234.54 per month as of January 1, 2025 and $266.97 as of January 1, 2026 for employee and all eligible dependents.

PAID LEAVES:
  • Benefits also include an annual paid leave plan of
    • 96 hours of vacation (increases upon continuous years of service)
    • 96 hours of sick leave
    • 14 paid holidays plus one 8 hour personal holiday
LIFE INSURANCE:
  • Approximately 80% of the premium for a $30,000 life insurance plan for the employee is paid for by the County.

RETIREMENT:
  • A retirement plan through CalPERS.
    • CalPERS Formulas:
      • Classic member = 2% @ 55
      • New Member = 2% @ 62
  • A Deferred Compensation retirement plan option with a County match of up to a maximum of $60 per month.
