The TECO Energy Internship & Cooperative Education Program offers college degree-seeking students the opportunity for professional growth while meeting the business needs of the company. The program is an extension of the educational process, providing practical experience to complement formal classroom work. The co-op program recruits students from colleges to give them an opportunity to work in a professional environment related to their field of study.
POSITION SUMMARY/DETAILS:
This position is for a full-time (40 hours/week) mechanical engineering student in their junior year or higher, enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering program. The student position enables TECO to utilize cost-effective technical support/knowledge to supplement the engineering and technical staff within Asset Management/O&PM and the stations. It also creates a channel for TECO to hire highly motivated and effective entry level engineers proven to be capable of becoming future leaders.
Accountabilities:
  • Develop inspection planning spreadsheet and inspection reports.
  • Perform equipment inspections.
  • Develop CAD drawings and sketches.
  • Function as a liaison between Asset Management and the stations by attending meetings and documenting Action Items related to Asset Management.
  • Review, communicate, and file documents as directed by Asset Management engineers.

Physical Location of Co-op: Big Bend Station, CM Building 13031 Wyandotte Road Gibsonton, FL 33534
Working Conditions Combination of Plant/Field and Office environment. Must be willing and able to work in dusty, hot, and noisy environments.
Preferred Availability: Full-time (40 hours)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
The successful applicant should be enrolled in an ABET accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.
Co-Op Requirements:
  • To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in the university's co-op program (proof of enrollment required); if not eligible for co-op program (or program unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
