Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential -

  • Effectively teach Construction Technology program courses located the Hutchinson Correctional Facility.
  • Teach within a flexible training schedule including day and evening teaching assignments that may include alternative delivery systems such as online.
  • Teach theoretical concepts as well as their application in a hands-on laboratory environment.
  • Work closely with representatives from KDOC to follow their policies.
  • Be responsive to student needs.
  • Teach at other Hutchinson Community College locations as assigned.
  • Ability to perform lab exercises and assignments to meet current industry codes and standards determined by KBOR program alignment requirements.
  • Design, develop and maintain course curriculum, materials, assessments and evaluations according to HutchCC and state standards, and in response to industry needs and trends.
  • Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Build instructional training aids and prepare instructional materials.
  • Be aware of and be able to maintain applicable shop and lab safety standards.
  • Maintain records and files as requested by the department.
  • Actively participate in program advisory committees as assigned.
  • Work as a team member with the Department of Agriculture, Business, Computers and Technology.
  • Attend required college meetings and in-service activities.
  • Pursue professional development through pertinent classes, workshops, or seminars.
  • Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
  • Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.

Secondary -

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Business and Industry, and/or Department Chairpersons and/or the Vice President of Academic Affairs and/or Vice President of Outreach and Workforce Development or their designee.

QUALIFICATIONS (Essential):

  • Associates degree or higher in Construction Technology or related field or relevant industry experience in the construction trades preferred.
  • Evidence of effective teaching experience at the collegiate level preferred.
  • Ability to obtain NCCEER certification within the first four semesters of teaching.
  • Possession of a valid Kansas driver's license.
  • Be an effective team member with excellent communication skills.
  • Physical requirements may include, but not limited to, having the ability to lift, stand, bend, stoop, reach, climb, push, pull and carry. Lifting requirement may vary considerably but will typically be in the 75-100 pound range. Heavy/indoor work environment; excellent verbal, written, and listen communication and organizational skills; ability and willingness to collaborate; ability to work independently; visual acuity to view a computer terminal; use appropriate judgment and apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations.
  • Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.
  • Physical and mental qualifications must be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • The qualifications listed are guidelines for selection purposes; alternative qualifications may be substituted if sufficient to perform the duties.


SALARY and STATUS:

Salary is commensurate with qualifications, credentials, background, and experience. This administrative staff position is full-time, 12 months, renewable annually, benefit eligible, at-will, and exempt.
