Job description

Director of Technology

The Director of Technology — Integrated Security Solutions will lead USI's Technology Division, owning the strategy, growth, and operational execution of our integrated security systems business. This is a builder's role: you will scale a division that combines in-house technical talent with an exclusive subcontractor network, manage multi-phase enterprise projects, maintain multi-state licensing compliance, and partner with sales leadership to grow a pipeline of access control, VMS, intercom, fiber, and converged physical/cyber opportunities. The Director will serve as the senior technical authority for the division and the primary point of accountability for project delivery, margin performance, and team development.

Key Responsibilities

Division Leadership & Strategy

• Own the Technology Division P&L, including revenue growth targets, project margin, and operating budget in partnership with Finance.

• Define and execute the division's growth roadmap across the tri-state region (CT, NY, NJ) and New England (MA, RI), including build-out of engineering, project management, and business development career paths.

• Serve as the senior escalation point and technical authority for all integrated systems engagements.

Project & Program Management

• Direct multi-phase, multi-year enterprise deployments (fiber, head-end, CCTV/VMS, access control) from design and estimating through commissioning, closeout, and service handoff.

• Establish project governance: scopes of work, schedules, submittals, change-order management, and client reporting standards.

• Oversee project management coverage across CT, NY, and NJ, ensuring consistent delivery standards across all active jobs.

Subcontractor & Channel Network

• Manage and expand USI's subcontractor ecosystem — including exclusive integration partners, union and non-union electrical contractors, and specialty fiber and head-end vendors — with clear scopes of work, performance standards, and negotiated rates.

• Develop channel partner relationships that extend USI's reach into new geographies and vertical markets.

• Qualify, onboard, and audit subcontractors for licensing, insurance, and quality compliance.

Licensing & Compliance

• Maintain and expand USI's technology licensing footprint across NY, NJ, MA (low- and high-voltage), RI, and CT, including qualifier relationships and license-holder agreements.

• Ensure all installations meet applicable state licensing, permitting, and code requirements, including alarm and low-voltage regulations.

Team Building & Talent Development

• Recruit, hire, and develop technicians, lead technicians, project managers, and business development staff, including establishing engineer and superintendent career progression paths.

• Set compensation frameworks, performance expectations, and training plans for field and office staff.

Sales & Business Development Partnership

• Partner with corporate Sales and BDM staff on solution design, estimating, pricing strategy, and proposal development for integrated systems opportunities.

• Support RFP responses, client presentations, and site walks as the division's technical lead.

• Collaborate on converged offerings that pair integrated technology with USI's guard services, executive protection, and cybersecurity practices.

Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in electronic security, low-voltage, or integrated systems, including 5+ years in leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex commercial security integration projects exceeding $1M in value.
  • Experience with access control, video surveillance, intrusion, intercom, fiber, and network infrastructure solutions.
  • Strong financial acumen, including estimating, budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and multi-state project delivery.
  • Working knowledge of licensing and regulatory requirements within the Northeast.
  • Proven ability to build, mentor, and lead technical teams.
  • Strong communication, client-facing, and business development skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel regionally (30–50%).
