Job description

Medical Technologist

Credential: MT: Medical Technologist ASCP/AMT/AAB

Equivalent Experience: Must hold and maintain an active, national certification in the field of medical laboratory sciences or technology within 12 months of hire or transfer through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT) or American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB). It is preferred the first attempt occurs within 3 months of hire. Other certifications issued by ASCP, AMT, or AAB that are not listed above may be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the specific area of specialization and the expertise required to meet operational and clinical needs. Alternative national laboratory science certification may be accepted in place of ASCP certification for employees hired to MyMichigan prior to 1/1/2025 or hired to an acquired facility prior to integration date. Non-certified employees must actively pursue an acceptable route to national certification and will be provided an appropriate amount of time to become certified. The amount of time offered is directed by the selected national certification route option and will vary by employee but should be completed no later than 8/1/2028. Candidates holding ASCPi certification are considered equivalent to ASCP certification for international applicants. Individuals hired with ASCPi certification are not required to obtain ASCP certification thereafter, provided they maintain active certification and meet all competency and regulatory requirements.
