Position Details:

As part of the ADHD team, you will report to a Clinical Psychologist. You will participate in a structured learning experience in the ADHD and Behavior Disorders Center, gaining exposure to evidence-based assessment and treatments approaches for children and teens with ADHD and behavior Disorders Center. Under the supervision of licensed clinicians, you will observe clinical services, participate in training activities, and develop foundational skills in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and related interventions.

This internship position is unpaid. You are not considered employees of Child Mind Institute and are not eligible for wages, overtime pay, benefits, or other compensation. The position is intended to provide educational, observational, and professional development opportunities rather than to perform the essential functions of a paid role.


ยท This internship runs from September 14, 2026, through May 28, 2027.

Interns are expected to commit 10โ€“12 hours per week and be available in person at least two afternoons per week.


You Will:

Learning Opportunities

  • The Program Internship provides a learning and training opportunity for individuals interested in children's mental health, specifically with ADHD and behavioral disorders.

  • Interns will gain experience by working directly with children and will receive training in skills from Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an evidence-based treatment for behavioral concerns.

  • If available, participate in weekly center and PCIT meetings involving consultation of cases and administrative concerns with a multidisciplinary team with psychologists of various clinical, behavioral, and school psychology backgrounds.

  • Receive monthly individual supervision throughout the internship


Primary Activities

  • Observe live and virtual clinical sessions and participate in learning activities under the supervision of licensed clinicians during evaluation and treatment sessions.

  • Observe and participate in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) sessions for young children with various behavioral concerns.

  • Assist with educational and clinical training activities, including preparing materials and engaging in play-based child-directed interaction during sessions as needed.

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree acquiredยท

  • Prior experience working with children and/or in a clinical setting

  • Professional demeanor and attitude; ability to interface with families as well as senior leadership, clinicians and staff

ADA Requirements

This position operates in a professional office environment and requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, use standard office equipment (such as computers, phones, copiers, and printers), perform tasks that involve repetitive motion and communicating with others. The role may also require occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds.

  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods throughout the workday.

  • Ability to frequently transition between standing, sitting, kneeling, crouching, squatting, and sitting on the floor while interacting with children.

  • Ability to actively participate in children's play and therapeutic activities, including running, walking quickly, climbing stairs, and moving rapidly in response to children's needs and safety.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment, and occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.

  • Ability to bend, reach, twist, and maintain a range of physical positions required to support classroom and clinical activities.
