Job description

Supervisor, Technical Writing
The Supervisor, Technical Writing role is responsible for leading, coordinating, and governing documentation, while serving as the senior authority for technical documentation standards. This is a working supervisor role; you will keep your technical writing skills sharp! The role blends advanced technical writing expertise, administrative, and cross-functional coordination. Regarding the technical writing aspect, you are responsible for researching, organizing, writing, editing and producing technical data for major publication projects with the goal of organizing material and writing according to standards of order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology. You will ensure technical documentation is accurate, complete, meets editorial and government specifications and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format and style. The supervisor ensures that documents are accurate, complete, compliant, and consistently formatted to Curtiss-Wright standards, and provides direction to all technical writers.

Salary Information: $90,000 to $105,000 per year

Your Challenge:
  • Supervise more junior Technical Writer(s), and provide input to technical team members as they assist in technical writing, and documentation
  • Train and mentor team members to strengthen documentation skills, technical writing capabilities, and adherence to standards.
  • Create, develop, plans, write and edit operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publication.
  • Conduct interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation.
  • Research and translate technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for nontechnical and technical users.
  • Recommend formats responsive to technical and customer requirements.
  • Develop, write, edit, and produce operational, instructional, maintenance, and test procedures for paper, multimedia, and web-based publication.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear, structured documentation for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Document engineering processes, configuration details, specifications, and product behavior as required.
  • Ensure all documentation meets Curtiss-Wright standards for accuracy, completeness, formatting, quality, graphics, style, and compliance.

What You Bring:
  • Due to the nature of work performed at this site, incumbents must be a U.S. Person.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in technology, communications, or relevant technical field desired.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of relevant experience in the development and editing of Technical / Engineering documentation, preferably related to computer software and hardware-based products.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • High attention to detail and a relentless pursuit for quality.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office, documentation management systems (CMS), and structured repositories.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex subject matters.
