The QISG team brings together Engineering, Safety, Quality, Material Procurement, QA/QC, Right-of-Way Acquisition, Scheduling, Environmental Planning, Permitting, Title and Land Management expertise that ensure outstanding results for our clients.


The Assistant Technical Writer supports the Engineering organization by drafting, editing, and formatting technical documents, proposals, job descriptions, standard operating procedures, and other written deliverables. This entry-level role is well suited to a developing writer who wants to build a career in technical and engineering communications, working closely with engineering, proposals, and business operations teams to ensure documents are clear, consistent, and professionally presented.


Duties

  • Drafts, edits, and proofreads technical documents, job descriptions, proposals, reports, and internal communications for clarity, grammar, and consistency
  • Supports the Engineering and Proposals teams with formatting, styling, and version control of written deliverables
  • Maintains and applies document templates and style guides to ensure a consistent voice and format across deliverables
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and internal reference materials
  • Coordinates with subject matter experts across engineering disciplines to translate technical content into clear, well-organized writing
  • Supports layout, formatting, and light graphic coordination for proposals and presentations
  • Proofreads and quality-checks documents prior to distribution or submission
  • Brings potential document or process-related issues, along with possible solutions, to the attention of the responsible party
  • Takes personal responsibility for the quality, accuracy, and professionalism of all written work product

Required Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, or other relevant writing discipline
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Willingness to work onsite at one of our existing engineering offices, preferably Spokane, WA; Portland, OR; or Boise, ID

Competencies & Skills

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with excellent attention to detail
  • Any relevant publications or published writing samples are a plus
  • Prior experience in a technical, engineering, or corporate writing environment
  • Familiarity with AP style or other formal technical writing standards
