Manager, Training & Publications

Location: Hagerstown, IN or Birmingham, AL

At Autocar Truck LLC, we are committed to delivering industry-leading trucks, exceptional customer support, and innovative solutions that keep our customers moving. We are seeking a Manager of Training & Publications to lead the development of technical training programs and oversee the creation and management of service documentation across our product portfolio.

This unique leadership role combines technical training, instructional design, technical communications, and publication management. The successful candidate will ensure technicians, operators, dealers, and customers have access to accurate, engaging, and effective training materials and technical documentation that support the safe operation and maintenance of Autocar products.

What You'll Do

Training Development & Delivery

  • Develop, update, and manage digital training programs, webinars, and e-learning content for field service technicians.
  • Create and maintain driver and operator training programs focused on vehicle operation, safety, maintenance awareness, and new product features.
  • Develop training materials for new vehicle platforms, systems, technologies, and product enhancements.
  • Deliver live virtual training and webinar sessions to technicians, operators, dealers, and customers.
  • Travel up to 20% to conduct in-person training, workshops, field demonstrations, and customer events.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through participant feedback, knowledge assessments, and performance metrics.
  • Develop testing and certification programs to validate learning outcomes.
  • Maintain training schedules, certification records, and attendance documentation.
  • Continuously improve training content and delivery methods using modern instructional design and adult learning principles.

Publications & Technical Documentation Management

  • Manage the lifecycle of service manuals, operator manuals, technical bulletins, and related publications.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product Development, Service Engineering, and subject matter experts to gather technical information and product updates.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation.
  • Ensure all documentation remains current, accurate, and compliant with company standards.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external technical writing and publishing partners.
  • Review and approve externally developed technical documentation for quality and consistency.
  • Oversee publication schedules, version control, document repositories, and distribution processes.
  • Support regulatory, safety, and compliance-related documentation updates as required.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner with Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing, Service Operations, and Customer Support teams.
  • Establish best practices for technical training, documentation, and knowledge management.
  • Support successful product launches through timely training materials and technical publications.
  • Drive initiatives that improve customer education, technical communication, and knowledge transfer throughout the organization.

What We're Looking For

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Communications, Engineering, Education, Business, Automotive Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and relevant experience will be considered.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in technical training, instructional design, technical communications, publications management, or related field.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical training programs for adult learners.
  • Experience creating and managing technical documentation, service manuals, operator manuals, or technical publications.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering teams to develop technical content.
  • Experience managing external vendors, technical writing firms, or publishing partners is preferred.
  • Experience in the commercial vehicle, automotive, transportation, heavy equipment, or related industry is highly preferred.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), e-learning platforms, and webinar delivery tools is preferred.
