Fall Co-Op - Technical Publications Engineer - Defense & Special Missions

Why This Internship

As an intern with Textron, you'll gain hands-on experience while exploring your interests and building new skills. You'll be supported and challenged to contribute in meaningful ways - working on real projects alongside experienced professionals to prepare for future success.

JOB SUMMARY:

Create and prepare new or revised aircraft technical manuals to include the operation and maintenance of aircraft parts, systems and assemblies. Conduct research independently and collaboratively using engineering database information, engineering drawings, functional tests, commercial and military sources and standards, such as ATA and MIL specifications. Ensure all data conforms to established design specifications while providing customers with detailed instructions for continued airworthiness.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for completing engineering research, development, and certification requirements for authoring/illustrating new and sustaining model technical publications.
  • Utilize Adobe FrameMaker authoring software to produce detailed procedures to support the operation and maintenance of aircraft systems.
  • Ensure all data conforms to established design specifications and regulatory requirements as they relate to technical orders.
  • Verifies accuracy of content, instructions, and illustrations by collaborating with design engineers, project teams and customer service representatives to participate in certification/verification activities on and off aircraft.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Aviation or related field required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An understanding of engineering data, with an ability to research and analyze engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience and knowledge of aircraft operation, aircraft systems, aircraft maintenance practices and aircraft manufacturing.
  • Familiar with Military, FAA Regulations, and Aviation Industry (iSpec 2200, S1000D, MilSpecs, etc.) specifications and guidelines, with an emphasis of technical order structure.
  • Experience using SGML/HTML/XML and/or Adobe FrameMaker preferred.
  • Professional and diplomatic demeanor with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the U.S. for Textron Aviation at the time of making application, and visa sponsorship is not available for this position, including for F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors who will need employment sponsorship.

Summer internships are 40 hours per week typically from late-May to early-August lasting 10 weeks.

Candidates must be able to work onsite for the entirety of the internship program unless approved otherwise by the hiring manager.
