Overview

Technical Writer III (H40-2026-25277)

Bowhead seeks a Technical Writer III to support a newly awarded contract in Dahlgren, VA. This contract will provide configuration management (CM), logistics, mechanical and electrical engineering technician services, field service support, project management, drafting and design, technical writing, and acquisition services to the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD), Unmanned & Expeditionary Weapon Systems (H40) Division and Intelligent Automation (H60) Division.

Responsibilities

Job Duties to include but are not limited to: 

  • Coordinate Government inputs, generate and deliver program weekly reports, monthly reports, program review presentations, and program status updates and highlights.
  • Attend meetings and generate attendee's lists, meeting minutes, and Action Items (AIs).
  • Track meeting action items and maintain records reflecting both open and closed action items.
  • Contact open action item Point of Contacts (POCs) for status updates and document any updates prior to recurring meetings.
  • Edit documentation during meetings.
  • Adhere to security classification guides and develop/edit/archive project materials appropriately.
  • Schedule conference rooms at the Government and Contractor facility, generate agendas and invitations, disseminate invitations, and print/bind presentation materials.
  • Maintain and update Government project tracking system databases.
  • Maintain and update configuration management database or repository in accordance with program configuration management plan.
  • Perform direct writing for engineers, scientists, and other personnel who author technical and administrative publications.
  • Perform technical editing of existing Government documents and presentations to ensure technical consistency, format consistency, and proper grammar. Configuration control shall be maintained at all stages of document generation and maintenance.
  • Provide recommendations for test documentation, test plans, test reports, test schedules, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), countdown checklists and problem reports.
  • Ability to work independently and interface professionally with other government agencies, contractors, military personnel. 
  • Ability to define task details (e.g. Excel, Project, Power Point, and Word). 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team. 
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or a passing score on the General Education Development (GED) exam
  • Five (5) years of general experience in proofreading, editing and formatting of technical documentation, ensuring it is accurate, complete, meets editorial and government specifications and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style.
  • Two (2) year of specialized technical writing or editing experience for weapon systems or related programs.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating with document authors in the drafting, review, and publication of technical documentation.
  • Editorial experience to include reviewing/auditing project documentation for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level.  US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
