Job description

Are you passionate about creating clear documentation for highly complex systems? We may have the Tech Writer position you've been seeking! The Tech Writer III is a senior-level position responsible for leading the development of comprehensive documentation for high-impact aerospace and defense projects. This role involves managing documentation projects, collaborating with subject matter experts, and ensuring that all technical documents meet the highest standards of accuracy and clarity.
The Mission Solutions and Technologies (MST) business area provides affordable, turn-key command/control, communications, integrated ISR, force protection and security solutions worldwide. The MST team has a long legacy of supporting the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, commercial and international customers with years of experience in platform operations, engineering and full lifecycle management across domains - air, land, sea, space and cyber.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the preparation and coordination of proposal responses to RFPs.
  • Conduct initial reviews of proposal documents for compliance and alignment with RFP requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather necessary information for proposal content.
  • Maintain proposal schedules and deadlines to ensure timely submissions.
  • Support the development of proposal themes and strategies.
  • Participate in proposal reviews and incorporate feedback from stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate and complete documentation of proposal activities.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Engineering, Aerospace, Aviation or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in technical writing or a related field within the aerospace and defense industry.
  • Higher level relevant degree may substitute for experience.
  • Ability to utilize proposal management software and AI tools.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple proposals of all sizes from proposal planning to delivery.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to motivate/work with others.
  • Ability to work within time constraints, have a flexible schedule, be ready to meet changing deadlines and priorities to capture proposal needs.
  • Advanced proficiency with documentation tools and software such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe FrameMaker and Extensible Markup Language/Standard Generalized Markup Language (XML/SGML).
  • Advanced knowledge of technical writing principles, practices, and standards.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams.

Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Familiarity with government and commercial contracting processes.
  • Self-starter and a problem solver; must have the ability to see the big picture and implement changes as required.
  • Prior experience in a Lead role; the ability to mentor, train, guide and inspect the work of team members and coordinate project tasks to ensure milestones are met.
  • Association for Proposal Management Professionals (APMP) Certification.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense or US Military.
  • Experience preparing Pricing Volumes to include work breakdown structure (WBS) and Basis of Estimate (BOE), including government contracting proposal processes and procedures.
  • Understanding of one or more of Adobe Creative Suite applications: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat.
  • Skills in the use of MS Word, i.e., formatting, outlining, graphics integration, for the use of proposals.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry or DoD.

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods, including proficiency with documentation tools and software.
  • Manual dexterity for operating a computer and creating detailed documentation.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally.
  • Must be able to work in an office or hybrid environment.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as required by project needs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members and stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements, tools ,and technologies in a fast paced industry.
