Job Description

Job Title:  Director of Marketing Salary Schedule: Central Office Administrators Reports To:  Chief Communications Officer Salary Grade: Director Work Location:  Lincoln Center FLSA Status: Exempt Position Summary

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) seeks a Director of Marketing to lead efforts that strengthen the district's brand, increase student enrollment, and deepen community understanding and engagement with the district's various academic offerings, extracurricular opportunities and student services. This role is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive marketing strategy that includes, but is not limited to: Attracting new students/families, retaining current students/families, re-engaging former students/families, and clearly communicating the various opportunities and benefits available to students and families when they choose CHCCS.

Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, the Director of Marketing will work across departments and schools to raise the district's level of competitiveness for attracting, retaining and engaging students and families.

Essential Duties
  • Lead a districtwide marketing and enrollment strategy focused on attracting new and former students/families
  • Plan and implement additional marketing and communication campaigns that promote CHCCS schools, programs and opportunities to current and prospective students/families
  • Direct the creation of high-quality marketing content, including email, web/digital, print, video and social media
  • Manage targeted campaigns to promote enrollment periods, magnet programs, signature initiatives, extracurriculars and electives (including, but not limited to, Pre-K, Career & Technical Education, arts, music, theatre, athletics, etc.)
  • Partner with school and district leaders to identify and highlight what makes CHCCS unique, including programs, offerings and staff/student success stories
  • Craft clear, compelling messages that reflect the strengths, values and student pathways available at schools and across the district
  • Identify and target key audiences, including current families, prospective families, families who have left the district, and community partners
  • Work at the school and district levels to plan and implement in-person community events designed to achieve marketing goals
  • Build relationships with local organizations, businesses and community groups to expand outreach
  • Analyze enrollment trends, market conditions and family preferences to inform outreach efforts
  • Use data and analytics to measure campaign effectiveness and maximize strategies
  • Oversee website strategy, social media marketing and digital advertising at the district level
  • Support principals and school teams with marketing tools and training for use at the school level
  • Collaborate at the district and school levels to align messaging
  • Develop a budget and manage vendor relationships as needed in order to reach marketing goals
  • Ensure messaging is accessible and inclusive for diverse audiences
  • Lead the Communications team (including support for Board- and Cabinet-level topics, crisis communications and media relations) in the absence of the Chief Communications Officer
  • Support the Communications unit in team-related projects and activities
  • Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations and/or related field
  • 6-10 years of experience preferred in marketing, brand management and strategic communication for K-12 education
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing marketing strategies that drive measurable results
  • Exemplary writing, storytelling, and project management skills
  • Proficiency with digital marketing tools, analytics platforms and content creation
