Job description

Introduction to the job

This Senior Technical Support Engineer role is focused on advanced DUV system diagnostics, global escalation support, and continuous improvement. The engineer will help field teams resolve complex issues faster, strengthen technical capability across regions, and reduce customer downtime through structured problem solving and clear knowledge transfer.

Join ASML's Global Support Center DUV team to apply deep technical expertise, collaborate across regions, and strengthen support for advanced lithography systems.

ASML technology is essential to mass producing semiconductor chips used in many of the electronic devices people rely on every day. Our lithography systems help the world's leading chipmakers create microchips that are more powerful, faster, and more energy efficient. ASML is headquartered in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, with offices around the world, including major sites in the United States.

As part of the Global Support Center, you will provide expert remote diagnostics for critical equipment issues across multiple technical domains, including:

  • Mechatronics
  • Metrology
  • Illumination and projection
  • Dose control
  • Optical path diagnostics
  • Light sources, including mercury arc lamps and excimer lasers
  • Sensors
  • Robotics technology
  • Thermal and fluid dynamics

You will join a global team of expert engineers focused on solving machine failures, strengthening field capability, and helping internal customers become more self-sufficient over time. The North America Deep Ultraviolet (DUV) Global Support Center is based in Chandler, Arizona, and works closely with our teams in Linkou, Taiwan and Veldhoven, Netherlands.

Role and responsibilities

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, collaborating with global stakeholders, and turning lessons learned from escalations into stronger support capability for field teams.

As a Senior Technical Support Engineer, you will:

  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues escalated from field teams and customer sites, using structured troubleshooting and data analysis, with a focus on illumination, projection, and dose control modules of ASML DUV scanners.
  • Create clear diagnostic action plans that help field engineers move efficiently from problem definition to technical resolution.
  • Build deep technical expertise and continuously expand your knowledge of ASML DUV systems, diagnostics, and escalation processes.
  • Troubleshoot Illumination, Projection, and Dose Control competency issues, including projection lens performance, illumination profiles, dose stability, and light-source performance.
  • Use MATLAB and offline diagnostic tooling to analyze optical path behavior, identify root causes, and recommend effective corrective actions.
  • Support 24/7 global escalation coverage through effective shift handoff, stakeholder updates, and collaboration with GSC teams in other regions.
  • Share diagnostic knowledge with worldwide GSC competency teams and Customer Support engineers through documentation, training, and knowledge transfer.
  • Identify lessons learned from escalations and contribute to continuous improvement actions that improve our future diagnostic capability and field self-sufficiency.
  • Advance proactive diagnostics and predictive data modeling approaches that help reduce unexpected downtime.
  • Demonstrate ASML's Challenge, Collaborate, and Care behaviors while working with a global network of engineers and stakeholders.

Education and experience

This role requires experience with high-tech products, complex systems, and structured troubleshooting.

Required qualifications

  • Master's degree in engineering or a related technical field with 3-5 years of relevant working experience, or a Bachelor's Degree with 6-8 years of relevant working experience
  • Ability to interpret schematics, technical drawings, and design documentation.
  • Advanced experience with feedback control systems.
  • Knowledge of optical principles and the ability to troubleshoot projection lens performance, illumination profiles, dose control, and illumination sources such as mercury arc lamps and excimer lasers.

Preferred qualifications

  • Three or more years of relevant experience in a high-tech engineering, technical support, semiconductor, or complex equipment environment.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Unix/Linux, Python, offline diagnostic software, or other data analysis tools used to evaluate optical path and system performance.
  • Experience supporting lithography, semiconductor manufacturing, or other high-precision equipment.
  • Experience creating action plans, documenting technical findings, or supporting escalation processes.

Skills

Success in this role depends on both technical excellence and collaboration. You will work in a creative, dynamic environment where engineers share knowledge, challenge assumptions, and bring different perspectives to complex problems. You will have the trust and flexibility to determine the best approach while partnering closely with colleagues across competencies and regions.

To thrive in this role, you will need:

  • Fluency in English.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to turn complex data into practical diagnostic direction.
  • Technical strength in illumination, projection, dose control, optical path diagnostics, imaging/focus performance, electronics, and gas-flow-based light-path conditioning.
  • Clear, concise communication skills for technical updates, stakeholder alignment, and knowledge transfer.
  • Ability to work effectively in global, cross-functional teams and across different technical competencies.
  • Strong ownership, initiative, and follow-through in a fast-changing environment with competing priorities.
  • Flexibility, open-mindedness, and willingness to challenge assumptions while remaining collaborative and customer focused.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, documentation quality, and field self-sufficiency.
