Job description

Director of IT
Our Edmonton-based Client is searching for a Director of IT who reports directly to the Executive Committee and will lead the planning, execution, and optimization of their IT Systems. You'll build the IT roadmap, approve initiatives proposed by the IT team, and partner cross-functionally to drive service excellence.
Your success will be defined by your ability to:
  • Develop and lead the company's overall IT strategy — including roadmap, timelines, and direction — in alignment with operational and strategic goals
  • Report directly to the Executive Committee, presenting recommendations, progress updates, and approving initiatives proposed by the IT team
  • Oversee large projects introduced by the IT team, ensuring quality execution, on-time delivery, and measurable business impact
  • Oversee critical platforms such as POS (Oracle), ERP, Sage, CRM, and loyalty systems
  • Oversee the security and maintenance of cloud infrastructure, including Microsoft 365 and Azure environments, ensuring robust backup systems and firewall protections are in place and regularly reviewed
  • Lead Sage 300 ERP upgrades end-to-end, manage enterprise reporting platforms (Power BI, Sage Intelligence, etc.), and drive AI/automation adoption across core finance processes — all while bridging IT, Finance, and third-party partners to maintain system integrity and support business operations
  • Ensure the delivery of responsive and effective technical support across internal departments and the franchise network, fostering a culture of service excellence
  • Ensure compliance with privacy laws, data protection requirements, and IT risk management standards
  • Oversee IT vendors, licensing, contracts, and procurement
  • Mentor and lead a growing in-house IT team while maintaining a strong hands-on presence
  • Policies & Documentation: Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of IT policies, procedures, and documentation to support operational efficiency, compliance, and knowledge management
  • Innovation & Growth: Evaluate new technologies and drive system integration projects that support the company's growth
Your strengths include:
  • Degree or diploma in IT, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 7+ years of progressive IT experience with at least 3+ years in a senior leadership or director-level role
  • Proven experience creating and executing an IT strategy, including roadmap development, timelines, and direction-setting
  • Strong Point-of-Sale system background, ideally with Oracle or similar
  • Help desk experience required; familiarity with Jira help desk ticketing software is a strong asset
  • Proven hands-on experience with system administration, cloud platforms (Microsoft 365, Azure), networking, endpoint security, and backup systems
  • Strong understanding of POS, ERP, CRM, and HRIS platforms
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks, data governance, and IT compliance
  • Strategic mindset with excellent troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills, including the ability to influence at the executive level
  • Experience in a multi-unit retail or franchise environment is a strong asset
  • Highly organized, resourceful, and proactive in identifying and implementing tech-driven solutions
  • Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate, CompTIA Network+ / Security+ / CySA+, ITIL Foundation, or an IT project management certification
