Job Overview:

The Opportunity:

As an Outside Sales Engineer, you will serve as a primary catalyst for business growth and market expansion across the NYC Metro area, Long Island, and Westchester. Leveraging deep technical expertise and HVAC application mastery, you will forge lasting partnerships with building owners, mechanical contractors, and consulting engineers. This pivotal role puts you at the forefront of securing high-value mechanical projects, shaping custom steam and hydronic solutions, and driving revenue for a market-leading firm representing elite brands like Armstrong International, Miura Boilers, and Watts.

How You Will Make an Impact:

• Expand business footprint by proactively identifying, cultivating, and closing new commercial sales opportunities across regional territories.
• Cultivate high-trust, long-term technical relationships with consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, facility owners, and key decision-makers.
• Provide expert engineering consultation, specification assistance, system design support, and product selection for complex HVAC and district steam projects.
• Generate comprehensive technical sales proposals, accurate engineering take-offs, and competitive estimates tailored to specific client challenges.
• Manage project lifecycles end-to-end—from initial plan review and feasibility assessment through bidding, submittals, delivery, and post-installation commissioning.
• Partner seamlessly with Inside Sales Engineers and branch support personnel to ensure rapid proposal delivery, accurate order execution, and superior customer service.
• Deliver proactive field support to address job-site technical questions, application changes, lead-time logistics, and billing clarity.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) PLUS 3+ years of direct experience selling, marketing, or designing HVAC products for mechanical contractors/design engineers.
• — OR —
• In lieu of a BSME degree, 5+ years of direct experience selling, marketing, or designing HVAC products for mechanical contractors/design engineers.
• 3+ Years of business development, consultative selling, and relationship management in the HVAC/mechanical industry.
• 3+ Years of technical pre-sale and post-sale engineering support experience for HVAC equipment.
• 3+ Years managing multi-stage job pipelines using strong organizational, communication, and consultative sales skills.
• 3+ Years of proven hands-on problem-solving addressing field site issues, delivery timelines, and complex mechanical applications.
• 5+ Years of proficiency using Windows-based selection, pricing, quoting, submittal, and order management software to communicate with factories and contractors.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

• Strong existing network of mechanical contractors, engineering firms, and building developers in NYC, Long Island, and Westchester.
• Deep familiarization with Con Edison District Steam specifications, boiler room operations, and steam trap management systems.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Competitive base salary ($65,000 – $85,000 per year) with flexibility based on skills and background.
