Job description

Aperam S&S USA is seeking a hands-on, organized, and proactive Technical & Safety & Manager to oversee facility safety, maintenance coordination, purchasing support, vendor management, and operational improvement initiatives at our processing center in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

This is a highly visible, single-site leadership role that combines environmental health and safety (EHS), maintenance coordination, technical support, and facility operations. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, understands industrial equipment, can read blueprints, possesses a strong understanding of electrical systems, and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with OSHA and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Manage safety programs, inspections, training, reporting, and documentation
  • Lead incident investigations and corrective actions
  • Coordinate safety committees, audits, and compliance activities
  • Manage contractor safety programs and work permits
  • Oversee PPE programs and safety improvement initiatives

Maintenance & Facility Coordination

  • Coordinate preventive maintenance (PM) schedules, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Develop, implement, and improve preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts on production equipment and facility systems.
  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints to assist with equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Work closely with production and maintenance personnel to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Coordinate outside contractors and service providers for equipment repairs and facility projects.
  • Maintain maintenance records, equipment documentation, and spare parts inventory.
  • Support Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Purchasing & Operations Support

  • Manage purchasing for production consumables, PPE, spare parts, maintenance supplies and shop materials.
  • Create purchase orders and support vendor setup processes.
  • Review invoices and coordinate with vendors to ensure timely delivery and issue resolution.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, supplier improvements, and operational efficiencies.

Project Management

  • Support capital equipment and facility improvement projects from planning through implementation.
  • Coordinate quotations, vendors, implementation, and startup activities

Qualifications:

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is a plus but not required. Equivalent technical training and relevant manufacturing experience will also be considered.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, facilities, maintenance coordination, or a related technical environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience troubleshooting, maintaining, or coordinating repairs on industrial machinery and facility equipment.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and managing preventive maintenance (PM) programs.
  • Experience coordinating vendors, contractors, and outside service providers.
  • Purchasing or procurement experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints.
  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems and manufacturing equipment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and manufacturing safety practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and effectively support cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with SAP, CMMS, or other maintenance management systems is preferred.
  • Experience with TPM, 5S, Lean Manufacturing, or other continuous improvement methodologies is preferred.
