Job description

The Prepress Technician ($28.00 to $35.00/HR+ DOE) is responsible for preparing and processing digital files to ensure they meet printing specifications for commercial and pharmaceutical products. This role requires close attention to detail, proficiency in prepress software, and an understanding of industry-specific standards to ensure highly accurate output. The Prepress Technician will work closely with Customer Service, production and quality assurance teams to ensure all materials meet regulatory and company standards before going to print.
Responsibilities:
  • Review, adjust, and format digital files for print, ensuring they meet the technical specifications for pharmaceutical packaging, including labels, inserts, and cartons.
  • Conduct preflight checks on files to ensure they are free of errors, such as missing fonts, incorrect color spaces, or low-resolution images.
  • Maintain consistent color accuracy by managing color profiles, calibrating equipment, and proofing materials against color standards.
  • Generate proofs (digital and hardcopy) for internal review and customer approval, ensuring they align with customer specifications.
  • Operate and maintain prepress software and hardware, including Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and other relevant tools
  • Work closely with designers, printers, and production teams to troubleshoot and resolve any prepress-related issues, ensuring seamless workflow and high-quality output.
  • Calculate and provide layout impositions for internal and external use.
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of requirements, limitations and workflows as they pertain to conventional and UV offset printing, packaging, digital, flexo and wide format printing.
  • Determine the most cost-efficient method for producing projects.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Practice all job, department and company safety procedures.
  • Practice all job-related ISO 9001 quality procedures.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of imposition software required, Heidelberg software preferred.
  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite required, experience with Signa Station or XM Pi preferred.
  • Proficient MS Office skills, including working knowledge of Excel and data entry skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of printing, packaging, bindery, and flexo manufacturing operations.
  • Solid understanding of impositions and layouts as they pertain to offset, digital, and flexo workflows, including bindery and finishing processes.
  • Must possess excellent type written, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Established skills in accuracy, organization, meeting deadlines and working in a high-volume environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to support all other departments within the company.
