Job Description:

L3Harris is actively seeking a Project Engineering Senior Manager for our facility located in Waco, TX for a direct hire opportunity. We offer great competitive benefits and a generous relocation package for those who qualify.  We are looking for a senior professional with strong knowledge of Engineering development in the DOD and/or Aerospace industry and a broad knowledge of project management.

As the Project Engineering Senior Manager, you will get the unique opportunity to support a dynamic and growing business area, lead an experienced team of Project Engineers heading the technical leadership of multiple air vehicle modification and modernization programs, pursuits, special projects, and Internal Research & Development (IR&D).  This position will lead a team of approximately 15 Project Engineers in a growing business area and the position responsibilities include supervision, resource planning, coaching and leadership development activities.  

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of project engineers in support of multiple business areas to execute development, modification and modernization efforts on air vehicle platforms and systems
  • Provide technical mentorship and leadership coaching to Program Chief Engineers & Project Engineers, to ensure their success in meeting program objectives
  • Provide top-level support for proposal generation, Earned Value Management, estimates-to-complete, organizational development, strategic planning, and product and technology roadmaps
  • Actively participate in strategic and business aspects of the MMG Engineering Department that will directly impact the achievement of overall business or functional results
  • Establish a culture of Project Engineering excellence and balance the Project Engineering Department with low, medium, and highly experienced Project Engineers
  • Forecast Project Engineering Manpower needs based on Program and Potential demand forecast
  • Determine hiring needs and conduct searches to onboard needed Project Engineers
  • Ensure thorough understanding of the Project Engineering role within the organization
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering quality and delivery through use of metrics
  • Recruit, develop, assess and retain Project Engineering staff
  • Establish performance expectations, methods, and tools for Project Engineering
  • Support training and career development for Project Engineers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field and minimum 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.  In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in Project Engineering or Technical Project Management role
  • Air Vehicle and Systems Integration experience
  • Great communication skills
  • Experience with FAA (STC) and Military (MTC) certification activities preferred
  • Experience with process improvement e.g. CMMI and Six-Sigma
  • Experience building strong relationships and effectively partnering with internal and external resources; customer focused
  • Proficient in technical project management and technical estimating
  • Proficient in risk identification, risk analysis and contingency planning
  • Working knowledge within a relevant technical field (e.g., Aero-Mechanical, Aero-Electrical, Systems Engineering, Structural, Stress, Mass Properties, Aerodynamics, Software, etc.)
  • Must be a US Citizen with a DoD Security Clearance (Secret minimum). 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience in prior leadership capacity (i.e. Supervisor/Manager, Engineering Manager, Program Manager, Director etc.).
  • Proficient in leading root cause analysis, troubleshooting complex technical situations, and leading continuous improvement efforts
  • Proficient in people management, evaluations and team building
  • Demonstrated understanding of interaction between engineering design, program management, manufacturing & supply chain processes, Mission Assurance & Quality
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, CMMI or other continuous improvement frameworks with high expectations of sustained excellence for self and team members.
