What is a technical project manager in software?

A Technical Project Manager in software is a professional responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing software development projects. They bridge the gap between technical teams and stakeholders, ensuring that development goals align with business objectives. Their duties include managing timelines, budgets, resources, and risks while facilitating communication between developers, designers, and clients. Technical Project Managers often have a background in software engineering or IT, enabling them to understand technical challenges and guide teams effectively.

How does a technical project manager in software typically coordinate between development teams and stakeholders?

Technical Project Managers in software play a crucial role in bridging the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders. They often facilitate regular meetings, such as sprint planning and progress reviews, to ensure everyone is aligned on project goals and timelines. Clear communication and documentation are key, as they translate technical updates for non-technical stakeholders and relay business priorities to the development team. This collaborative approach helps manage expectations, mitigate risks early, and ensure successful delivery of software projects.

To thrive as a Technical Project Manager in Software, you need a strong understanding of software development processes, project management methodologies (such as Agile or Scrum), and a relevant technical background, often supported by a degree in computer science or engineering. Familiarity with project management tools like Jira, Trello, or Asana, as well as certifications such as PMP or Certified ScrumMaster, is typically expected. Leadership, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities help you manage cross-functional teams and stakeholder expectations. These skills ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards in complex software environments.

Job description

Why Socure?

Socure is building the identity trust infrastructure for the digital economy — verifying 100% of good identities in real time and stopping fraud before it starts. The mission is big, the problems are complex, and the impact is felt by businesses, governments, and millions of people every day.

We hire people who want that level of responsibility. People who move fast, think critically, act like owners, and care deeply about solving customer problems with precision. If you want predictability or narrow scope, this won’t be your place. If you want to help build the future of identity with a team that holds a high bar for itself — keep reading.

About the role

Technical Project Managers (TPMs) are the engine that drives our clients’ success. They are adept communicators with strong technical knowledge and a knack for problem solving.

At Socure, we empower TPMs to partner with clients and internal teams to deliver our world class Platform and Identity solutions. To that end, they are comfortable operating in a flat, fast-paced organization and are energized by leveraging cutting-edge technology to protect identities. At its core, this role requires the TPM to combine tactical execution skills with strategic expertise to lead cross-functional teams through multiple, often concurrent project lifecycles.

What you’ll do:
  • Own requirements gathering, project planning, implementation, and deployment support for our global clients and partners

  • Forecast and communicate project timelines, ensuring stakeholders are informed of potential delays, milestones, and dependencies.

  • Proactively partner with commercial and technical stakeholders, regularly educating them on Socure's solutions and deployment process while serving as a key partner to their success

  • Closely collaborate with developers and deployment managers to integrate Socure's suite of technology with client applications

  • Investigate and diagnose challenges alongside Socure's technical teams to ensure solution quality and sustainability

  • Facilitate client status meetings to manage scope and schedule of multiple, often concurrent deployments

  • Learn! Master Socure's product suite to better understand how clients can use our technology and in turn supplement our product roadmap

  • Value inclusivity and contribute to a culture that empowers you to show up as your authentic self

What you bring:
  • 5+ years of IT project management or technical consultancy experience in a hardware or software company

  • A self-starter by nature with applied knowledge of agile software development processes and a strong interest in learning about indoor location technology

  • Like us, you're a high‑performer with an exceptional record of getting things done in a fast‑paced, analytical environment

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to solve problems and foster relationships with technical and commercial stakeholders

  • Process‑oriented with an eye for detail and improvements

  • Ability to communicate in English fluently and idiomatically

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS or MS degree in a relevant technology or management field (Computer Science is a plus)

  • Experience with project management tools (Jira, Smartsheet, Google Suite, MS Office, MS Project)

  • Project Management Professional® (PMP) / Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM) certifications preferred
