Job Description

The Water Business Line of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Water/Wastewater Conveyance Technical Leader/Senior Project Manager, with a focus on water/wastewater infrastructure design, with in-depth design engineering experience in municipal public right-of-way conveyance and pumping systems, for immediate employment in our Orange County or Los Angeles County offices.

This technical leadership role within AECOM offers an exciting opportunity to focus on a mix of client business growth, technical leadership in municipal conveyance design, project delivery leadership, and mentoring of developing engineering staff by leveraging top-notch regional and national water/wastewater engineering expertise and capabilities to expand AECOM's business.

The appropriately qualified applicant will be a seller/doer and have the opportunity to manage and work with an established team of professional engineers on a variety of water, wastewater, and stormwater design projects including gravity collection and distribution pressurized pipelines, pumping stations, water/wastewater treatment facilities, and storage systems. The applicant will have the opportunity to provide engineering leadership on a mix of municipal, state, and federal projects.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Collaborate with regional and national AECOM experts in the Water Business Line and across business lines to bring cutting-edge solutions and teams to our clients and to seek new municipal business opportunities with existing clients.
  • Work with senior technical staff and marketing staff to deliver winning proposals.
  • Serve as Client Services Manager for select clients.
  • Conduct planning and staff meetings.
  • Oversee the successful delivery of technical work.
  • Serve as Seller/Doer, Project Manager, and technical lead for the planning, design, permitting and construction of water/wastewater conveyance and pumping projects, including new construction, rehabilitation/renewal, and public right-of-way utility relocation.
  • Oversee project elements including reports, hydraulic models, calculations, drawings, construction plans and specifications, permitting packages, and construction phase engineering services.
  • Perform project management activities including coordination with clients, sub-consultants, regulatory agencies; scope, schedule, and budget development; project team coordination; interdisciplinary coordination; budget and schedule tracking; invoicing; and payment of consultants and contractors.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff and provide professional growth opportunities for team members - with a focus on water/wastewater conveyance.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, and ability to successfully direct multi-disciplinary teams.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or related field, and a minimum of 10 years of progressive water/wastewater engineering experience including the planning, design, and construction of municipal water/wastewater conveyance and pumping projects, including new construction in public right-of-way, condition assessment and rehabilitation/renewal, and public right-of-way utility relocation and or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License and must be able to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in CA or have the ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity within 6 months of employment.
  • 15+ years of progressive water/wastewater engineering experience including the planning, design, and construction of municipal water/wastewater conveyance and pumping projects, including new construction in public right-of-way, rehabilitation/renewal, and public right-of-way utility relocation.
  • Experience in preparation of engineering proposals for submission to clients, and in business development.
  • Experience in managing and/or delivering projects by "alternative delivery" approaches including design/build, progressive design/build, and construction management at risk.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with diverse audience groups including clients, the public, regulatory staff, subconsultants, and internal technical staff.
  • Demonstrated project management fundamentals and a proven track record of providing technical leadership to successfully deliver water and wastewater projects.
  • Experience supervising other engineering professionals, and strong staff development, mentoring and management skills.
  • Must have a proven track record of leading technical engineering and successfully delivering water and wastewater projects, resulting in securing additional projects from clients.
  • Position requires occasional business travel of one to three days per month.
