Senior Technical Project Manager For Responsible Ai Program

Right now this is a straight contract role but manager would consider contract-to-hire if full-time budget was approved.

Position Overview

In this critical role, as a Senior Technical Project Manager for the Responsible AI Program, you will apply your expertise in program and project management skills to manage the needs of a complex, dynamic, enterprise-wide AI governance program. Your excellent written and verbal communication skills will be essential to build trust-based relationships with data science, business teams, and executive leadership across the enterprise. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring and maintaining consistency in process and procedures across RAI platforms, program documentation, guidance documentation, and training. You will use your expertise to identify opportunities for continuous improvement throughout the program, balance shifting priorities toward the overall mission of the program.

You will build on your knowledge of artificial intelligence concepts to attain expertise on topics related to the Responsible AI, such as how to evaluate AI for performance, fairness, or security. In this role, you will influence across the enterprise by interacting with data science leaders and functional business executives to educate and advise on key concepts related to responsible AI. This role is essential to the company’s success as the RAI Program has increasing requirements for standards based on emerging technology and to meet the increasing market demand.

As a Sr. Technical Project Manager within the Responsible AI Governance Operations team, you will play a critical role in operationalizing and scaling the governance infrastructure that supports UHG’s enterprise-wide Responsible AI Program. You will be responsible for managing governance workflows, supporting the AI Review Board (AIRB), coordinating AI risk reviews, and driving continuous improvement across our AI lifecycle oversight processes. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Responsible AI Governance and collaborates closely with Legal, Compliance, Data Science, and Technology teams.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Support the execution and continuous improvement of governance processes, including AI inventory management, AIRB operations, and AI risk assessments
  • Manage intake, triage, and tracking of AI use cases across the enterprise, ensuring timely and risk-aligned reviews
  • Support the implementation of technical tooling and automation to streamline governance workflows
  • Draft and maintain governance documentation, including process maps, standard operating procedures, and audit artifacts
  • Partner with Compliance, Legal, and Technology teams to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements (e.g., EU AI Act, Executive Orders) and internal policies
  • Contribute to the development of metrics and dashboards to monitor governance effectiveness and identify areas for improvement
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Business, Technology, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in program or project management, preferably in a compliance, risk, or governance function
  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional initiatives with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, actionable guidance
  • Familiarity with AI/ML technologies, data governance, or digital health innovation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and project management tools
  • Bachelor’s degree
