Job description

Senior Technical Program Manager

United Kingdom

Role Overview

As a Senior Technical Program Manager, you will lead the execution and delivery on our critical customer programs, ensuring successful delivery of complex space electronics, RF, communications, and edge computing solutions. This role sits at the centre of the business, coordinating engineering, operations, supply chain, customers, and leadership teams to deliver against demanding technical, schedule, cost, and quality objectives.

You will combine strong program management discipline with a solid technical foundation, enabling you to engage confidently with multidisciplinary engineering teams and understand the technical challenges, risks, and decisions that drive successful delivery. The role requires sufficient technical depth to challenge plans, assess development maturity, identify emerging risks, and support effective decision making throughout the product lifecycle.

As the company continues to grow, this role is expected to evolve beyond ownership of a single critical program into the management of multiple programs and ultimately a broader portfolio of strategic customer activities. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop into a senior program leadership role while helping shape the future of our delivery organisation.

This is a hybrid role, with office-based working expected for most of the working week, while retaining flexibility to support program and business requirements

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Delivery

• Lead the successful delivery of complex customer programs from contract award through customer acceptance.

• Own program performance across technical, schedule, cost, quality, and customer satisfaction objectives.

• Develop and maintain integrated program plans, schedules, milestones, dependencies, and resource forecasts.

• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across systems, RF, electronics, FPGA, software, manufacturing, integration, and test functions.

• Drive accountability across teams, ensuring commitments are met and issues are escalated early.

Technical Leadership

• Develop a strong understanding of the technical content, architecture, requirements, and development challenges associated with each program.

• Work closely with engineering leads to assess technical progress, readiness, and development maturity.

• Facilitate major technical and customer reviews and ensure actions are driven to closure.

• Challenge assumptions, identify technical risks, and support effective decision making.

Risk, Change and Governance

• Establish and maintain effective risk, issue, action, decision, and change management processes.

• Proactively identify and mitigate program risks before they impact delivery.

• Ensure program reporting, governance, and customer commitments are maintained to a high standard.

• Drive recovery planning where required to maintain program objectives.

Customer and Stakeholder Management

• Act as the primary program interface for customers and key stakeholders.

• Build trusted relationships through clear communication, transparency, and delivery excellence.

• Provide concise and accurate reporting of progress, risks, issues, and recovery plans to customers and leadership.

Continuous Improvement

• Promote best practices in program management across the organisation.

• Support the development of scalable delivery processes as the company grows.

Required Skills and Experience

Essential

• Experience leading complex technical projects or programs.

• Strong technical background with experience working in engineering led product development environments.

• Experience delivering complex electronics, RF, communications, computing, aerospace, defence, or telecommunications products.

• Strong understanding of engineering development lifecycles, including requirements, design, verification, qualification, and production.

• Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.

• Demonstrated ability to engage credibly with engineers and customers on technical matters.

• Strong program planning, risk management, stakeholder management, and customer facing experience.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Jira or equivalent planning tools.

Desirable

• Experience within the space, satellite communications, aerospace, defence, or advanced electronics sectors.

• Understanding of RF systems, embedded systems, FPGA development, electronics design, or edge computing technologies.

• Experience supporting transition from development into manufacturing.

• Familiarity with ECSS or other regulated engineering environments.

• PMP, PRINCE2, APM, or equivalent certification.

• Previous experience as an engineer, systems engineer, or technical lead.

Personal Attributes

• Technically curious with the ability to quickly understand complex engineering challenges.

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

• Comfortable operating in a fast paced and evolving environment.

• Confident driving accountability and influencing across multiple functions.

• Customer focused with a strong sense of ownership and delivery.

• Able to balance strategic thinking with practical execution.
