Technical Program Manager, R&D Testing
Location: Foster City, California (Onsite, hybrid)
Employment Type: Contract
Role Overview
We are seeking a Technical Program Manager to oversee holistic testing operations. This role focuses on ensuring smooth operational execution, managing organizational interaction, and improving the efficiency of testing. The position involves managing relationships with external partners such as proving grounds and equipment providers, while internally aligning stakeholders for the readiness and execution of pre-service testing activities on closed courses.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and iterate on the strategy for R&D testing with cross-functional stakeholders from engineering, operations, finance, and procurement.
  • Organize a document management system for related processes and ensure roles and responsibilities are understood by all stakeholders.
  • Ensure operations teams have the proper resources to meet the company's testing requirements.
  • Establish standard reports and regular program meetings to provide effective communications to key stakeholders on program status, issues, and accomplishments.
  • Manage relationships with external testing providers, including proving grounds and test equipment suppliers.
  • Define and manage the budget for test tracks, test equipment, and other resources to support testing in closed-course environments.
  • Maintain a strong technical understanding of vehicle platforms, software lifecycle, clearance processes, and test operations.
Required Qualifications
Education: A BS or MS degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
Experience: At least 5 to 8 years of experience in engineering, program management, or management consulting, including experience with scheduling and coordinating assets.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in tools or processes required to manage complex projects (e.g., Gantt charts, risk matrix, Smartsheet, JIRA). Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills, with an ability to create visualizations of KPIs and program risks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • In-depth experience with system architecture, safety-critical systems, corporate strategy, or test and validation.
  • Previous technical program management experience.
  • Product development experience at an automotive company or a Tier 1 auto OEM.
  • A strong track record in managing complex cross-functional projects or facilities.
  • Experience with developing and scaling strategy, processes, plans, and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize with strong time management skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to drive communication within a high-performance, cross-functional organization.

Compensation
  • Up to $88/hour on W2.
