Position Description

We are seeking a Senior Technical Advisor in support of a large-scale Government Cybersecurity Operations Center (CSOC). Working within a small leadership team, you will bridge the gap between executive strategy and technical execution.

This role requires a self-managed leader, who can navigate shifting priorities, independently conduct complex investigations to verify analyst performance, and serve as a technical lead on high-visibility projects.

What You'll Do

  • Executive Advisory & Liaison: Provide technical consulting and objective insights to the CSOC Director and managers on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and cyber risk. Represent the CSOC to external agencies and departmental leadership.
  • Operational Quality Assurance & Analysis: Collaborate directly with technical teams. Utilize security tools (EDR/XDR, SIEM) to audit ongoing incidents, perform hands-on investigations/threat hunting when required, and provide expertise in adversarial tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).
  • Strategic Planning & Road mapping: Author, implement, and maintain the strategic and tactical plans based on the customers vision. Maintain roadmaps defining technical processes, personnel skill levels, and capabilities required for long-term CSOC maturation.
  • Special Projects Management: Serve as a self-directed manager to execute critical, short-timeline taskings and special projects, ranging from executive briefings to new program development.
  • Cybersecurity Operations Architecture: Author and maintain comprehensive cybersecurity operational diagrams that explicitly document data flows, integrations, and connections between all enterprise security tools. Detail exactly what visibility and defensive capabilities each tool provides to SOC analyst, ensuring team workflows match technical design.

Leadership Capabilities

  • Navigating Ambiguity: Ability to extract intent from loosely defined objectives, establish structured frameworks around them, and drive execution.
  • Objective Reporting: Comfortable delivering direct, politically neutral insights to senior executives regarding operational realities and performance.
  • Autonomy: A self-starter who identifies systemic gaps, develops actionable plans independently, and executes under tight deadlines.

What You Bring (Requirements)

Baseline Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive technical cybersecurity experience in Cyber Operations, Incident Response, or Security Engineering.
  • Must have 5+ years of direct hands-on experience with SOC tools
  • Must possess at least one professional cybersecurity certification such as CISSP, CISM, CASP+, GCFA, GCIH, GCDA, GSOC, or GDSA

Nice to Have (Differentiators):

  • Comprehensive knowledge of modern SOC tools (XDR, SIEM/SOAR) and foundational engineering expertise in network and system architecture.
  • Proven track record of conducting cyber investigations, use case development, and threat analytics in large enterprise or government environments.
  • Experience supporting a Federal or Government CSOC environment is preferred.
