Job description

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Health, Wellness and Program Director, the Program Assistant will provide friendly, professional, courteous, and prompt membership service to all members, clients, and volunteers of the Y. The Program Assistant will ensure a safe, clean well-maintained and friendly environment. In the absence of a professional staff person, he/she will be directly responsible for the entire Central Division facility including parking lot areas, security of the building and general well being of the members.
JOB FUNCTION
  1. Program/Department Responsibilities
  • Assist in organizing, implementing and promoting assigned programs or special events for teens, adults, families and active older adults.
  • Be informed of all current and/or upcoming programs and special events in order to interpret YMCA membership and program information to members and potential members to increase their participation in each area.
  • Provide tours to potential new members explaining the facility, policy information, and membership rates, promoting the various programs and memberships.
  • Adhere to YMCA emergency procedures, including notification of appropriate professional staff person(s).
  • Make continuous rounds on an hourly basis, throughout all areas of the building to make oneself visible and available to members in all parts of the facility.
  • Ensure all requests, comments and/or complaints are immediately addressed by you, and referred to your supervisor and/or the appropriate staff person.
  • Provide back-up to Membership Service Desk Staff when they are cashing in/out or on an "as needed" basis.

  1. Fiscal Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures such as petty cash, member registration, membership desk, etc.
  • Maintain timely collection and appropriate safekeeping of Central Division's funds.

  1. Facility/Housekeeping Responsibility
  • Ensure a safe environment for all members.
  • Assist when needed in preparing for class and program setup to include but not be limited to clearing out gym/program space, setting up equipment, moving fans and cleaning gym floor.
  • During scheduled rounds of the building, be responsible for picking up from the locker rooms and the laundering of all towels.
  • Adhere to facility closing procedure to include locking all doors, closing windows, turning off lights, inspecting and shutting down saunas and steam rooms, securing pool and returning all used towels to the laundry receptacles.
  • Ensure that the free weight room, (Strength Fitness Center), is properly picked up in accordance with the system set by your supervisor.
  • Be responsible for cleaning (using the damp towel method) all recreation and gym floors as assigned, (prior to all classes, programs or special events).
  • Adhere to facility opening procedures, to include unlocking doors, turning on lights, checking equipment and check overall facility cleanliness.
  • During inclement weather, make sure the front and back walks are shoveled and salted/de-iced. Ensure members have safe access to and from the Y and the parking lots.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE, (Minimum Required)
High School Diploma
Must maintain CPR certification
Ability to lift up to 100 lbs
Must be able to walk up and down stairs
