Job description

The AEGIS program at Leidos is seeking a Technical Manager to serve as the manager or lead for the Data Transmissions Systems Product Team on the AEGIS contract at Kennedy Space Center (KSC). The Technical Manager will serve as a subject matter expert, providing in-depth knowledge of industry issues, trends, and local systems at KSC.

The Technical Manager will leverage functional area expertise gained through direct industry experience to assess the operational and functional baseline of KSC's transmission systems and their technical components. The successful candidate must possess a broad range of knowledge and experience across multiple, diverse service areas; strong expertise in continuous improvement methodologies; proficiency in change management; excellent leadership and personnel management skills; and extensive experience in performance measurement and tracking.

Technical background and understanding of Communications principles preferred. Must be willing to work off shift hours as needed to execute management responsibilities. This position will have formal supervisory responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assisting senior management in determining staffing requirements.

  • Interviewing, selecting, and training staff.

  • Managing reporting staff according to overall company policy or applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  • Establishing group goals and objectives.

  • Developing staff to maximize potential.

  • Planning, assigning, and delegating work duties to employees.

  • Allocating use of available resources.

  • Handling employee complaints, grievances, and employee discipline when necessary.

  • Evaluating current business processes and systems.

  • Planning and implementing procedures and systems to maximize operating efficiency.

  • Formulating department/unit policies and practices.

  • Monitoring work orders and ensuring systems are up-to-date and accurate.

  • Utilizing ISite and/or comparable budget/financial applications to track work package workflows for materials and budgets.

  • Responsible for the achievement of contract/department/division productivity and quality goals.

  • Identifying issues and collaborating with other functional groups to come up with creative plans to deliver on projects.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of prior relevant experience.

  • Ability to delegate and track multiple projects at the same time.

  • Ability to develop, motivate, and effectively manage the workforce.

  • Strong work ethic and willingness to work as a team.

Clearance requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Field experience with network systems and applications in an Operations and Maintenance environment.

  • Experience with KSC transmissions systems or similar network topologies/systems.

  • Experience working either for NASA or on a NASA prime contract in communications systems.
